5 pounds by Earth Day (or you pick your goal) - Page 3

Ruthiegirl, I lost more weight doing WW on my own last year than I did going to the WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD meetings. I disliked my "leader". So, good luck to you! But one question: why wait til Monday???

Candipooh (interesting screen name by the way...) my guess is that you're retaining some water using the packaged foods? What does spark say about your sodium intake? Are you drinking water? Have you taken measurements to compare against the weight?

I ate only 1033 calories yesterday; this is NOT my usual routine, but I did it as part of my resetting my appetite after my vacation. I also took a brisk walk and burned 300. I know, I know, too little caloric intake, but I just needed to do it. I had clear soup with vegetables during the day (like, a whole pot), a little peanut butter (natural) on a piece of double fiber bread (50 cal) and tilapia and quinoa (1/2 cup) for dinner. I'm doing this kind of thing again today. Scale had me down 2 lbs over yesterday's weigh in (I do realize that daily wi is not the best idea, but I had to know this morning if what I had done did anything) and I figure that if I do this until I am back at my pre-vaycay weight then I will be the better for it. I can then start back where I was. I will only do it for up to 1 week.

I drink about 100 oz of water a day. Sparks doesn't really concentrate on sodium. It might be a part of the puzzle. I should have taken measurements but I didn't.

I feel off the wagon for dinner. Eat ate out at a Mexican place. So so yummy, not so healthy.

Ummmm...because I did not quite have my act together to start yesterday. I went grocery shopping though, so today's the day!

Down 2 lbs this week, right on track. I have a lot to lose too but by September I should be a healthy weight again.

If you run reports in spark people, it will tell you how you did on sodium. I'm always getting yelled at for it (or I was, until I lowered it.)

I am running reports but I can't find it. I only see calories, carbs, fat and protein. Can you help me get to it?

ETA: never mind, I see that you have to add it to your daily goals to have it listed. Off to check.

Very big eye opener. It look like most days I am good with the sodium but a few weeks ago when I was having pretzels for a snack I was way over. There was 2 days that I was double the amount over. Yikes. But that last 2 weeks have been pretty good. A little over on some days but not too bad. Man it look like I need to find a new low fat dressing. My fav Newmens Own has way too much sodium. I know the canned soup was bad. It will be okay if I have it on some days but I will need to be careful the rest of the day.

I also found the chart that shows calories in, calories out. It is proof that they whole theory of "to loose weight all you have to do is burn more calories than you take in" is bull. Even without working out I am burning more calories than I am taking in. Add to that the 400 or so calories I am burning 4 times a week on the Elliptical and the weights. But all accounts I should be loosing.

I will just keep on, keeping on and I am sure that I will start loosing again.

Congrats to you

I forgot to congratulate you, sunnypamom. Congrats!

Candipooh, isn't the sodium thing amazing? I was amazed and really concerned when I saw the information on the sodium I was taking in.

Here is a good ff or lowfat dressing that you can make quickly and keeps a long time:

1 container fat free or low fat Greek yogurt
1 t. dill (or other herb)
2 T lemon juice or vinegar (add more to taste/consistency)
1 t. sugar, honey, agave or other sweetener
1 crushed clove garlic
1/2 t. salt or to taste

Blend and store in an airtight container in the fridge. It's really quite delicious.

Candipooh, what is your calorie deferential on average? The thing is, the top of the range is for days when you exercise and burn 300 calories or more. The bottom is for days when you do not exercise. The goal is to have a 500 calorie/day deferential for a 1lb/week loss. If your deferential is lower than that, you'll have a slower loss. You should see a minus sign in front of days when your intake and fitness give you a negative. If you are doing everything right, and if after a couple weeks of lower sodium you don't see a change, I'd wonder firstly if you need to recalculate the range (like readjust your "goals" in the goals section.) HTH? And yes, you'll start to lose.

That sounds really really good!!! Thank you.

Thanks for helping me find out even more from sparks. Cool stuff.

"Calorie Differential Over Time" for last week has me at an average of 1,503 coming in and 2,053 going out. But I did not track the weight machines. It takes way too long, lol.

Thanks for your help!

I am giving the impression that all i do is check this thread I'm having an internet day....

Does that mean that each day, you have a 550 calorie deficit? Like, each day, you see a negative 550?

It is an internet day for me too .

I clicked on the top of the sparks page that says "reports" thee clicked on "Calorie Differential Over Time"
Week average is already checked. The last weeks bar on the graph has the average for the week. 1,503 for intake, 1,784 burn without working out and 269 with workout.

How do you get to the + and - ?

Oh I found it!!! I needed to click on Calorie Differential not "over time" But yes on avrage I burned an extra 500 calories a day than I took in.

If I get to the gym today (it is only open for a few hours) then I will weigh myself to see if I lost my "period weight" By the looks of the charts I should loose the period weight plus another pound.

I just got back from the gym. 45 minutes on the Elliptical. I was sooooo tired it was hard.

So the scale has me at 168.5 which is where I was when I started on this thread. I had started the thread on the 19th. 4 days later I was down 1/2 a pound. A few days after that I was on my moon cycle and up to 171. So while I did loose the water weight brought on by my period I held onto that 1/2 a pound. I guess I should just be happy that I am below 170.

So there you are. The "calories in, calories out" theory is busted, lol.

No, because when you go from one "decade" to another (you have just gone from the 170s to the 160s) you have to drop about 50 calories/day from your daily intake. You really have to, or you'll stop losing weight. Have you updated your current weight in sparks? If I were YOU, I would go to Start, put in your current measurements, put in what you want to weigh by when (so say you want to lose 3lbs by Earth Day or whatever) and then save your changes. You'll get a new calorie range. Stick to that, and you'll lose the weight. I had suspected that this was the case--I was actually coming here to ask you if you'd recently left a decade, and there you have it. Try it. And hey, losing moon cycle weight is good!

I actually haven't updated my weight since the whole "you weigh 11 pounds more than you thought you did" situation. Sparks has my weight as 163.

I will update everything tomorrow (when I have a bit more time) and see how that changes things. I will also measure myself. I *really* need to do that.

So how in the world can I get enough carbs without going over my sodium goal? ugh.

Thank you again for your help. You totally motivated me today.

Just checking in.. Sorry I have been gone.

I weighed myself on Friday and I had lost 1 lb!
The weekend was not good though... No exercise besides a 40 mins walk outside as I have a cold PLUS a yeast infection! Exercise obviously was the last thing on my mind. I am starting to feel better down "there" today and my cold seems like it is getting better. I am hoping I can walk on the treadmill tomorrow.

Happy to! It's going to work out. You'll see! And by the way, if the sparks thing confuses you, or nothing changes in the goal calculator when you input your info, there are other ways to determine what your calorie range should be, so don't worry. My opinion is that it's just a simple fix in the long run.

I just spent a *silly* amount of time looking for the following link for you Candipooh. And it will help everyone else. I'm going to post it, it's a long, long read, but sooooo good, and then I *really* am going to bed.
