Does anyone know about Erythritol?

I want to try the zevia sode. It's sweetened with stevia and erythritol. It's considered diet soda, but sweetened naturally. I get migraine headaches from many of the chemical sweeteners, so I'm just wondering if this could cause the same thing?

We don't drink soda except on special occasions, but even then I don't like all the sugar and crap in regular sodas, but I also will not use diet soda. So this seems like a compromise.

From Wiki:

Quote:
Erythritol ((2R,3S)-butane-1,2,3,4-tetraol) is a natural sugar alcohol (a type of sugar substitute) which has been approved for use in the United States[1] and throughout much of the world. It occurs naturally in fruits and fermented foods [2]. At the industrial level, it is produced from glucose by fermentation with a yeast, Moniliella pollinis[1]. It is 60–70% as sweet as table sugar yet it is almost non-caloric, does not affect blood sugar, does not cause tooth decay, and is absorbed by the body, therefore unlikely to cause gastric side effects unlike other sugar alcohols.

It sounds better than most sweeteners, but you know how that goes, one day it's good, and the next it's not

It has to be better than a regular HFCS soda or regular diet soda though.

I have some little sample packets I got when I ordered xylitol from emeralforrest.com. I think it's similar. I would try it and see if there's any aftertaste. Sorry, I guess I'm not that much help, eh?

E is similar to Xylitol, but works better as a sugar sub. It can have a cooling effect similar to peppermint, but it provides the bulking effect of sugar for use in baked goods, which is why it's usually used in conjunction with another sweetener like Stevia.

I tried it! And it was good! But I do wonder if that's the reason I've been freezing for the last 30 minutes!!
