Late teethers?

Thread Starter
So DD will be 8 months old tomorrow and still has no teeth - and no signs of teething, either. Her gums feel fine, she is only drooling a little bit and she still sucks on everything - only once in a while will she chew on a toy or my finger. She is, however, VERY interested in food and getting frustrated that she can't eat more.

DS started sprouting teeth right at 6 months so I am not sure what to think about this. I know the teeth will come out eventually... but I am just wondering... how long have you all waited? Anyone over a year without any teeth? I am just kind of hoping that they don't all come at once (although maybe it would be good to get them all out of the way at the same time?)!!

We're at 9.5 months - no teeth. The bottom two came to the surface at 6 months (you can just see the tops) and haven't moved since. She's had moments of teething off and on since 3 months.

DD is 8.5 months and in the same boat. Not even a hint of teeth yet. She does chew a lot, but that's it. We're still EBF 80% of the time, so I guess my nipples are happy that she doesn't have teeth yet! And, she does eat a lot of stuff other than purees. Those little gums are pretty good at mashing things up and molars don't come in for a couple years, so chewing really isn't dependent upon teeth.

My DD walked before she got teeth. She was just shy of her first birthday before she popped her first one. I was also a late teether (according to my mother) and was still without first tooth on my first birthday. And I remember very clearly that I was still losing teeth in high school! It's totally fine. The only thing you need to fear is mothers who think teething is some sort of contest.

10+ months and no teeth. She started drooling at five months, she chews on everything and oftentimes has her finger in her mouth for over two months. Still no hint of teeth.

She did take a few assisted steps this weekend, so maybe she will walk before teeth too.

A friend told me her son didn't have teeth until 18 months. He's now 9 and doing just fine.

Also agree - BF has been much easier without teeth. And I am in love with her toothless huge smiles.

Each of my kids were late teethers. My oldest son was 15 months when he got his first tooth, my second was 12 months, and my little girl JUST got her first tooth at 11 months.

Late teethers keep their teeth longer. My 8 year old just recently lost his first tooth.

Oh, and I have been told late teething is genetic.

The earliest any of my children broke the first tooth... 4 months exactly.

Latest any of my children broke first tooth.... 10 months.

natalie was almost 11 mos. both of my dss were ~1 yr too. both of them still have baby teeth, too. dh was forever getting his adult teeth and didn't get baby teeth until ~15 mos. my older kids (diff father) had teeth at 3 mos, 4 mos and 8 mos respectively with the latest being my 30 wkr preemie.

DD didn't get a tooth until she was 11mos, just days before she first walked.

me too, my friends were jealous the tooth fairy still came to visit me . My mother says I teethed late, and I think DS is going to be the same way. He's just 6.5 mo, but no sign of teeth yet. He is putting everything in his mouth, and drooling but I'll believe that's teething when I see a tooth.

No teeth at 9.5 mo and not even a hint...

9.5 mo, no teethies here!

Family lore says my MIL had not a tooth in her mouth until she was 2 years old.

I'm not holding my breath.

DS2 is 16 months and still only has four teeth. The first two came right around his first birthday. He has two molars trying to pop through, but for some reason his teeth are very tenacious.

My son just popped his first tooth a few weeks ago, when he was 11.5 months old. It still hasn't come all the way up, and there's no others in sight! Clearly he is just a slow teether! But he can eat pretty much anything you put in front of him. I'm impressed with how hard his little gums are!

ds1 cut his first tooth at 10 months old, and was a one-tooth wonder on his first birthday. everything came in very quickly after that, though. thank goodness he was a stealth-teether! it seemed like every time i looked in his mouth a new tooth was breaking through. no muss, no fuss.

ds2 started cutting teeth at 8 months old, and had a whopping two teeth on his first birthday. everything else came in quickly after that, as well, and with just as little drama.

My son got his first tooth at 11.5 months(he started walking at 9 months, so way before his first tooth!). They started coming pretty quickly after that, he had his second tooth about a week after the first and a mouthful within a few months.

My mom was about 1.5 years old when she got her first tooth.

DD is 8 months with nothing. Drool and chewing but no bump. DS got his first at 7 months, but he did not get his two year molars until well past his third birthday!

Same here. DS walked at nine months and didn't have a tooth poking through until almost 11. At 12 months he had two bottom teeth. Now at 14 months he suddenly has 4 teeth coming in on top all at once, poor guy! Maybe they were all waiting to come in in clusters.

8 months and no teeth here. He drools like crazy though, but has been for awhile.
