Rotation Diet Questions...

Hi! Finally putting together a rotation diet so we don't lose any more foods (totally regret not doing this when we started out journey 6 months ago - we have lost rice, white potato and now I think sweet potato from eating them daily. No more carbs for us!) We are Dairy, soy, corn, gluten, wheat, eggs, coconut, carrot, and broccoli free as well.

So... I am a bit confused at what I am finding online. Any good links you might suggest? I am getting conflicting info on how much I can eat of each food family on

Questions:

Do I eat as much from one food family as I want on the day it is on the diet? For example, on buckwheat day, can I do Buckwheat pancakes for breakfast and Buckwheat Cereal as an afternoon snack? I am dealing with a super picky, underweight 18 month old. Finding foods he likes are so hard and our intolerances are many. Buckwheat is a hit. Also, he loves banana... would I be stupid to give him half a banana every other day? Have you ever heard of anyone developing a banana intolerance from half a one every other day? I am just sad for him to take away something he loves in his insanely restricted world. Plus, its so easy to cut it in half and sprinkle supps in it.

Also, do I rotate oils I am cooking with? Olive, Ghee, Palm, then Sunflower?

Do you suggest rotating even something like onions, which are at the base of everything I cook?

Thanks for your input!

I used this for my food families. We rotate everything. My DS had a mild carrot intolerance, and I gave it to him most days (because it was easy for a school snack) and he ended up losing them completely. After 18 months of it, we now rotate only the intolerant foods that have been added back; the green/safe ones can be done every day (but we rarely do this). We don't put onions in everything anymore. I don't even use pepper on everything anymore since DS has a mild intolerance to black pepper. But yes, you can have it on that day as much as you want (hot buckwheat cereal, buckwheat pancakes, etc.) unless you notice a reaction. For my kids if they have too much of something they are mildly intolerant to, it can build up over the course of a day, so for instance, my 9yo is limited to 2 apples on apple day.

I agree with PP.....we rotate everything now because like you, my DS became intolerant to white potatoes, turkey, lamb, sweet potatoes because he was eating them on a daily or almost daily basis for so long.

We also eat as much as we want from certain families each day unless we notice a reaction. For instance, my DS can only tolerate one serving of broccoli on that day or he breaks out in a HORRIBLE diaper rash.

thank you both so much!

i think i just needed to hear that the rotation aspect of the diet is there for a reason. you really do need to rotate everything with these kiddos. ok - we will live without banana except every 4 days!

thanks kj for the food family link.

im just bummed about baked goods... basically, the bread and muffins i have been cooking can only be consumed every 4 days as well, unless i can find two recipes that use totally different flours. even then - do i worry about using guar gum and baking soda and flax seeds in both recipes?

For us, baking soda I wouldn't worry about using, the guar gum and the flax I would rotate. I don't think I use flax in my pancakes for instance because of that. My DS couldn't do guar gum so we went to karaya gum, now he's got guar gum back, but I'm still only letting him have the Purely Decadent ice cream once every 4 days. For baked goods, if you have leftovers, a lot of them keep well in the freezer (like cupcakes and cookes)
