Going without a washer?

Has anyone here just done all their family's laundry by hand (like, in the bathtub maybe)?

My washer bit the dust, we have sworn off credit cards, and as we just put $1100 into our one car DH needs for work and have a big tax payment due Apr 15, there just is really no money for a washer. And the laundromat is just a nightmare with a teething baby.

If you do it without a machine, how do you do it?

Not sure how that would be....but we managed to fix ours as unmechanical as my computer geek husband is....he can research on the computer...this was a craiglist purchase we had made four years ago for $70 and we had no trouble those first four years...so maybe a cheap used one or fixing yours might be a possibility...

it's a lot more work but it's doable. run a search in the off-grid forum. tons of thread on there for washing clothing laundry and diaper laundry without a washer.

Maybe craigslist or freecycle? I know that with my hatred of laundry-doing the tub would not work for me. I did get a perfectly serviceable dryer at Goodwill a few years ago for $50.

I would check around Craigslist or Freecycle. When I was given a new washing machine as a wedding gift, I posted mine on my town's version of Craigslist for free, as long as they were willing to pick it up and take it away. It was very, very old, but it still worked!

And also maybe you can fix it yourselves, sometimes it can be an easy repair. Good luck!

Well, I was just getting ready to do something along the lines of that you tube video when my parents called and said they found a used one on craigslist in their city (2 hours away) and borrowed my uncle's truck and are bringing it down- so lets hope it does the trick!
