3 yo neck/throat pain, junky cough, and 102 fever going on day 3.

Just need advice on what to do. I ask her what hurts and she points to her neck, so I don't know if I should interpret that as her throat or neck. Her voice has gotten scratchy, so I think she means throat. We've given her cool baths, but her fever keeps coming back up and she's miserable. Her cough is getting worse and I'm very worried about pneumonia the way she sounds, but that's probably just my paranoia. Her fever had been between 101-102, now at 102.8. I don't normally worry about fever, but it bother me that the fever is not leaving. How many days do I let it go? Help?

Mama, I'm sorry I didn't see your post. How is your lo? Are things any better? Don't be afraid of pneumonia, it can be treated! The word scares me, too; but so many of dd's friends have had it and they are fine--even if that turns out to be what it is. Unless you're really sure it's throat pain, though, I would probably at least get a medical opinion about the neck discomfort.

Her fever broke this morning and she seems better today, still got an awful cough though. Now I just have to usher my 2 yo and 10 month old through it Thanks for asking

I'm so glad her fever broke and maybe she will get some relief now.

My youngest dd had/has this. The fever worried me and w/that junky cough I worried about pneumonia too. Sore throat - she completely lost her voice. Many sleepless nights. Diarrhea too. (TMI: She could hardly breath one night because she was coughing up so much mucus - a handful, sorry.) I did take her in to the doctor and after examining her, his opinion was that it was viral. He said that her other symptoms 'could' go on for 2 weeks. Well it will be 2 weeks for her tomorrow and she is still coughing a bit, voice is almost all back 100%, no fever anymore, though.

My oldest dd had a much milder case of it. Only a low-grade fever, fatigue, diarrhea, and small cough for about 2 days. And I had it w/a pretty bad sore throat for a few days, but not until after youngest dd's symptoms started to subside. Ugh!

Hang in there mama... Hopefully your other kiddos won't get it or will only get a mild case.

Glad to hear the fever broke. I'm actually taking my 6 yo dd in to the dr today because of a cough that's been going on FOREVER. It seems to get better or worse depending on whatever else is going on (bad weather, a recent bout of stomach flu, etc). We seem to be in a pattern--manage to escape every.single.bug out there all fall/winter and then get sick around February and then it's a cough for dd that lasts weeks and weeks. I'm pretty sure ped will want her on abx, which happened last Feb. No fever, lots of energy, just...cough. Worse and thicker today, don't want to just leave it anymore. Yuck. Let's hope spring comes soon and helps get the nasties out of our bodies!
