Swaddling and Pacifiers

DS is almost 7 mos. He's still swaddled and uses a paci to sleep. In the past month or so he's started waking at night and we have get up to poke the paci back in. He generally falls back to sleep pretty easily but doing this a few times a night is a drag. Do we need to give up the swaddle so he can learn to plug himself or can you suggest something else? I am reluctant to wean him from the swaddle because he really seems to need it still.

We stopped swaddling around five months. It was a lot easier for her to place her paci. We found if we kept about 4 paci's in the crib it was easier for her to find one if she had been moving around during the night.

I'd give it a try and see which way works best for you. You can go back to swaddling if that is better.

I think you'll have to give up either the paci or the swaddle. We swaddled DS until he was 6 months old and once we ditched it we were soooooo happy. It took him several nights to get used to the new freedom, but he eventually did and slept great! Then we put like 5 or 6 pacificers in his crib...worked out great!!
