can resumed bf cause diarrhea in toddler?

When I was 4 months pregnant my milk disappeared. Now the baby is born and my toddler has joyfully gone back to the breast. Coincidentally or not he's also started having very loose stools and lots of them. He does have a mild cold, but dh thinks it's the return to bf. Ds also has a terribly red sore bottom this week no matter how often we change him or how much cream we apply.

Any thoughts on this problem? I'd hate to deprive him needlessly but I feel guilty that I could be causing the pain he's in. Help?

Colostrum is a laxative, so that's likely it. As your milk transitions more, it should help the diarhea.

Hmmm. I'm 9 days pp now, so I think we're well past the colostrum stage. Can regular established breastmilk do it or is my milk likely to still have any of the colostrum-laxative properties going on?
