this is a little hard, as most Waldorf EC teachers (uh, that's early childhood, not elimination communication, in this case ) will discourage recorded music for little ones. That said, I'm a Waldorf teacher, and my favorite cds for winding down in the evening with my boyo are "World Sings Goodnight" and Putomayo's "Dreamland." Lovely music, mostly not in English, and the lullabies on "WSGN" are sung by native speakers, and really show an understanding of what works for babies.

Sorry, but why? I'm not trying to stir the pot, truly. Just curious. We put on a lot of music in the house for DD. Is it harmful, similar to television being on in the background or something? What kind of music is good for babies?

beauchamp, I think the idea is that recorded music is "dead" in a way -- it's not connected with the living source of the sound. it's real wonderful gift of recorded music -- we can listen to John Lennon, Janis, even Enrico Caruso, though those folks are long gone from the earth. It's better for babies to hear YOU sing or play music. then the sound is full of love, it's real, it's alive.

It also does go hand in hand with the recommendations surrounding television -- protecting the baby's senses from unnecessary input. That said, my DP has the tv on at our house almost all day, and I really love to listen to one of those lullaby cds while I nurse my boyo. I would rather have a 100% "Waldorf" environment for my son, but having him at home with us has been such a gift for our whole family.
