My aunt needed help at her day care, and since I worked there for many, many years she called me yesterday to pitch in.
I hadn't been there in a few months, and when I arrived a lot of the kids were really excited. One of the kids, a little guy who just turned four, ran up to me and hugged my legs.
I knelt down to him and said hello and told him that I really liked his shirt. He stood back and looked at me, with the biggest, most sincere smile on his little face and said "You're getting so big!"
I sat there open mouthed for several seconds thinking "Did this kid just call me fat?" until I realized that he genuinely thought that he was giving me a complement. Everyone must tell him how big he's getting and he's pretty proud of that, so he thought that that's just what you say to someone who you haven't seen in a while and you're glad to see.
