Critique these ingredients for me please - coconut yogurt!

Someone here suggested I can give my 9.5 mo old DD coconut yogurt from Turtle mountain. She is dairy allergic and this is as close to yogurt as she can currently get. But I would like the additives critiqued and some sort of assurance that these are ok for an almost 10 mo old. The Bif. Lactus strain is ok...she isn't reacting. I am a bit wary of the Carrageenan but it is everywhere......

INGREDIENTS: WATER, COCONUT MILK, ORGANIC EVAPORATED CANE JUICE, PECTIN, CHICORY ROOT EXTRACT, DEXTROSE, ALGIN (KELP EXTRACT), MAGNESIUM PHOSPHATE, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, RICE STARCH, LOCUST BEAN GUM, AGAR, CULTURE, CARRAGEENAN, GUAR GUM, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, VITAMIN B12.
Live Active Cultures include: L. Bulgaricus, S. Thermophilus, L. Plantarum, L. Rhamnosus, L. Paracasei and Bif. Lactus

Why are you wary about carrageenan? I thought it was just seaweed...

I plan on giving this yogurt to my son as soon as it is available in Canada, because he is soy sensitive, and we're vegans, so I'm curious to see what others say.

I just found this thread talking about this yogurt! So hopefully something there will help.

Also - you mentioned the Bif. Lactus. The product is certified vegan, so I would think the Bif. Lactus isn't from dairy. (In case that is why you were mentioning it...) but I can't seem to find out what it is/where they source it from. Anyone?

Thank you lovepiggie - hadn't noticed that thread earlier but even on reading it....no one said anything about this cocogurt being good or bad explicitly. So am still not sure. Making my own yogurt seems like a hit-or-miss project so am wary.

Carrageenan was mentioned as being carciogenic in some of google search sites but am not completely convinced it is all that bad.

I didn't have a chance to read the thread before I linked it, sorry! I just read it, and I realized it wasn't all that helpful.

Also, I didn't know that about carrageenan! I used to work at an organic grocery store, and I remember seeing it in a lot of ingredient listings, so I just always assumed it was a good thing!

I did e-mail So Delicious about a few of the ingredients (sources and the like), so I'll post if they respond to me.

I was concerned about carrageenan, too, until I did a little research about it. There are two kinds of carrageenan, degraded and undegraded. Degraded carrageenan is toxic, but undegraded carrageenan is not. Food companies only use undegraded carrageenan.

dairy allergic or dairy intolerant?

we keep kosher so i know from looking at this yogurt's kosher certification that it is at least produced on "dairy equipment" (meaning that other dairy products are made on the same line.)

some of their products aren't (which we eat) but this one is.

i don't know if vegans or those who are dairy allergic care about stuff like that.

i always recommend to those who do to look at the kosher symbol which is usually on the front somewhere if it has one. if it has a "D" it means that there is something "dairy" about it, whether it has a hidden ingredient or dairy derivative or it was made on dairy equipment. if it says "D.E." like this yogurt does then it was just made on dairy equipment.

If you want something creamy and delicious, give straight coconut oil. Or, buy canned coconut milk and a lot of times, very thick cream is on top that you can scoop off. It's the consistency of yogurt. My DS likes it a lot.

That's a lovely idea but my DD won't take a tspn or two of coco-oil. And I will be wasting a lot of cans of coconut milk just to scoop of the thick cream I wish there was a better way

my critique is that they charge SO da&^ much for that yogurt.
Otherwise, i've found it to be pretty good with our allergies..
