Torn, Need words of encouragement

Ladies, this thread may get confusing, but I really need some insight and advice, or past experiences.

I was supposed to start my menstrual cycle on March 11. I took a pregnancy test on that day around lunch, and it came back PREGNANT. I was more than excited since it was something that we had been planning. After I got home from work that night, I took another one, just to be on the safe side. Again, POSITIVE. And again, the next morning, POSITIVE once again. So I schedule an appointment with an OB/GYN, prepared to apply for Medicaid, and also my local health dept to get an estimated due date for Medicaid.

I went to my health dept a week after my missed period, and they told me my test with them was negative. I was VERY upset to say the least. So I stopped by my local drug store and purchased three more tests. All three I took that day, and all came back POSITIVE. Thats 6 positives so far. The next day, which was a Thursday, a week exactly from when I was supposed to start, I went to a local pregnancy center, and their test was iffy. What I mean is, you really couldn't tell if there was a positive line there or not, so they sent me home with a ? mark.

About three days ago, I started noticing a discharge, and googled it, came back normal in pregnancy. So I went to my local drug store once again, took 2 more tests, and all three came back positive. Took one test just this morning, POSITIVE.
NINE POSITIVES!

Here is where things start getting rocky. Yesterday I started light bleeding and very minor cramping. Throughout the day, bleeding became heavier, and today was heavy also, with more severe cramps. So we took off to the ER, where they took a urine sample and blood sample.

Nurse came in and told me test was NEGATIVE...

I'm confused! Upset, hurt, disappointed... I don't understand it.. Am I missing something? This is my 3rd pregnancy, and I never had problems with my first two. I don't know if the hospital tested my urine or my blood. Can they test your blood within a matter of minutes or does it take a while for the results to come back?

I'm really torn on this, I know everything happens for a reason, but I feel in my heart, I was really pregnant, and I wanted THIS baby!

First off I am sorry your having such a hard time. I really hope you get the answers your looking for.

My last pregnancy (not this one). I tested positive on everything I peed on at home. Then I had some huge major pains so i went in to the ER, they tested my urine and it came back negative.. I told them that I knew I was pregnant. They told me I was not.

They sent me home saying I was just having period pains. Well I peed on a dozen sticks, still had the pain and went back to the ER with all my positive sticks.

Turns out the hospital and probably a lot of clinics do not use very sensitive tests at all.

I was pregnant, very early pregnant but pregnant none the less. I did sadly lose that pregnancy at 7 weeks.

But I knew my body and I knew I was pregnant. So hang in there a lot of mamas have bleeding in the beginning of their pregnancies.

I did in 06, a lot of bleeding in the beginning and went on to have healthy twins.

Big Hugs

Oh and Welcome to MDC!!!

oh, hon, I'm so sorry for your loss! I agree with the previous post that many of the tests used in doctors offices are not sensitive. Trust that you know your body, and know that if you had all those positive tests you were pregnant! What I learned with my chemical pregnancy was that the hcg leaves your blood earlier than it does your urine, so it's possible to have a positive urine test, and a negative blood test the next day if the hcg is already falling. Another great support community is the pregnancy and birth loss forum, so you may want to post over there. There are so many supportive women. I'm thinking of you, and sending you healing!

I'm sorry. It does sound like you've had a miscarriage. With my second child i had two positive hpts and then got a negative at the docs. Went back a week later because i was puking my guts out and they did a test and it was pos. I'd gone a week thinking i wasn't really pregnant, wondering where my period was and thinking i had the flu. The nurses at the doc office made me feel like an idiot when their test came bacfk negative. i'm really sorry about yoru loss.

Thanks yall!

I actually took another test today, and it was positive..makes number 10. I have to go get a sonogram tomorrow from a friend of mine who does them. Just want to make sure. She said it sounds like I'm 99 percent pregnant, and that dr offices use cheap tests.

Please everyone keep your fingers crossed for good new tomorrow!

I had a miscarriage.. Confirmed by my gyno yesterday. Called them and told them what was going on, and they told me to come straight in. Did urine test..Negative. Did ultrasound, saw activity, but wasn't too sure, so we did a quanitive blood test. Number was 12. She said it should be in the 1000s. Have to wait 1-2 months before trying again..

Everything happens for a reason I know, but I'm really upset about it

And I know it may be too soon to be asking this, or even worried about it, but how long do I need to wait before TTC again?

Also, I started bleeding on a Friday, so I assume that's when I started to miscarry, but do I count that as a menstrual cycle? Or wait until next month when I start?

This is all new to me.......

I would count that as a menstrual cycle, the first day of real bleeding should be CD1. Your next cycle will be kind of weird, but I had a loss at 12-13 weeks on Feb 5 and ovulated 17 days later. We tried that cycle but didn't get pregnant. I've heard doctors say to wait 3 months but haven't really read anything as to why (except for dating). Although the emotional part of stressing about TTC and getting BFNs was definately magnified the month after my loss. When you feel up to it, you should come by the pregnancy and birth loss forum here.
