Hi I am new here and posting with a concern about my son. After a rough start, we have been successfully exclusively breastfeeding. He is a chubby little guy and very healthy. He eats 2-4 jars of stage 2 baby food a day depending on appetite, plus nurses on demand throughout the day. 2 weeks ago he was just a few ounces away from 22 lbs. Tonight when I weighed him he was down to 20!
Within the last month he has started sitting, crawling, and pulling up, so of course his activity level has increased dramatically. My main concern is that something is wrong with the quality or quantity of my milk. 2 months ago I stupidly started the Special K Challange not thinking about it being a low-calorie diet and by the end of a week I realized i had had a dramatic drop in supply. I immediately stopped and the issue resolved itself. I am no longer dieting, simply making an effort to eat healthy foods and a daily exercise routine, but as he grows, I find I am struggling to eat enough throughout the day (I am a single mom and there just is so little time for things like eating! Even when I make an effort I seem to average 1500-1800 calories a day which I have been told is not enough to support exercise and breastfeeding?).
I havent seen the same issues that marked the previous supply drop, and I my little guy usually lets me know if he is hungry LOL. Is it possible for the quality of my milk to be effected? Or is it just normal for a chubby baby to lose some weight once he gets mobile?
Sorry this is so long - didnt want to miss any info that could effect it!
