Soy Milk?

I want to start drinking soy milk. What brand to try?
Why do you want to start drinking it? : Personally soy milk is at the very bottom of the list of alternative "milks" I would drink/feed my family - there are too many health issues associated with it.

That being said, I would look for one made of organic soy beans, without artificial flavorings or any sweetening. Or I'd make it myself from organic soy beans.

When I drink soy milk I go with Silk or 8th contenent. those are the two tastiest. brand is important for taste.

that said, unless you are specifically looking for the stuff found in soy I would go with a different milk alternative. Soy milk is what I get when there is no other option. So for daily stuff we drink unsweetend almond milk. I know walmart is the devil but they have it for cheap ($6 less per gallon than the co-op or grocery store). for my coffee I use a conconut creamer.

The brand I found tasted the best was Silk.

I prefer the taste of almond milk over soy milk, but it's not enriched, so I only drink it as a treat.

As for Soy milk in one instance I heard and read it is for people who can't drink milk, you know lactose intolerant. I also heard it is suppose to be healthy to drink and you get the same benefits as cows milk. Really though I am more for the good old cows milk.

Soy milk has advantages over dairy but there are better options than soy.

I am not a milk drinker. Can't stand it. I highly suspect I have high cholesterol. I thought I read soy milk can reduce the bad stuff. Is that right?

I have had almond milk, that was

eta - I am having a bunch of blood work this week. Including my cholesterol checked.

The Nutritionist lady on the Today Show was on this morning talking about milk and milk alternatives.

rice milk is one alternative, or almond milk.
soy products are a concern for many people because of the industrial nature of the agriculture and the high content of phytoestrogens that can affect thyroid or reproductive hormones (just google that and you'll see).
Rice milk is considered to be easier on the digestive system.

I prefer almond milk myself. I don't like the taste of soy and my hormones can't handle it anyway.

I prefer almond or hazelnut milk these days, but when I use soymilk Silk brand is my favorite, it really is the tastiest. I hate cows milk too, I have since I was a child.

There's good and bad about almost everything we put in our bodies these days.

Almond milk, hemp milk or coconut milk would be the three I would recommend. There are other nut milks, but can be more difficult to find. All three of these contain crucial fats. I don't recommend rice milk just because it does not contain any fats - it's essentially sugar water (juice).

Coconut milk is my preference, it is full of the essential fats. But the other two are easier to find in aseptic packages - most people can only find coconut milk in cans.

Oatmeal will help lower your cholesterol.

mostly that it is not dairy. I really think that dairy is one of the worst thing weaned humans can put in their body. but YMMV

or were you asking what the better alternatives were? almond and hemp. Some people prefer coconut. I use a variety of milk subsitutes depending on what I am using it for. they taste better and do not contain phytoestrogen (which can be helpful if you are in menopause but not so much if you are not).

I think soy milk just has less cholesterol than milk. (I think it has zero....my cholesterol intake on an average day is 0-5 whatever units they measure it in...mg? even when I drink soy milk....) but if you want to lower it you may have to do more. check out chia seeds....I have heard good things about them.

With cows milk you know that it came from the cow. Humans have been drinking it for years, some individuals even drink unprocessed cows milk. With coconut milk and almond milk hmmm lets look at it from a humorous perspective trees do not produce milk. Therefore a lot of artificial stuff has to go into the making of the famous coconut milk and other milk. The food industry is something though, one day they say oh drink cows milk, next day they say, drink soy milk... cows milk is bad for you and evil, another day they say drink coconut milk it has all the healthy this and that in it.

i have tried a lot of soymilk:

8th continent
silk,most their varieties
hyvee generic
aldi's brand
westsoy
best choice organic
organic valley-just tried this and it is my favorite

But silk has also just came out with an almond milk that i plan to stock up on, it is only 2.99 at target and hyvee and with 1.00 coupons it will only be 1.99 for a half gallon which is pretty darn cheap for almond milk. IT is tastier than soy and i am beginning to wonder if soy is having a negative impact on my luteal phase so I may be switching all our milk over to almond milk shortly.

I can't stand the taste of cow's milk, and my body can't either

I like Silk brand. I don't drink much, enough for a bowl of cereal every other day or so or a juice size glass with pancakes. I think it has some redeeming properties, and my hormones are so out of whack, the little I consume isn't going to matter either.

I am excited to hear about their almond milk, I'll have to search it out. Almond milk does taste good

The best *tasting* soy milk, regardless of added sugar/other alternatives or anything like that, is Silk Vanilla. In my own opinion of course.
I don't usually go to soy products (although edamame at the Japanese restaurant is yum!),
but that stuff is soooo yummy

Almond Breeze brand vanilla flavored almond milk is pretty good too.

I love almond breeze!! it is so much yummier than soy milk imho and lower in calories. you can also make your own almond milk. it's super easy & cheap (only requires almonds, water & blender ...nut milk bag optional).
