how to eat on the weekend without cooking or spending money out? - Page 2

Thanks for all of the great tips! DH and I were just talking about weekend meal planning. He wants to eat out so as to save me the effort . While I appreciate this, I prefer to eat at home.

Crock pot!

If you get one w/ a removable liner you can cook a big stew or something on Friday, and then reheat Sat. and Sunday as well. Or just throw everything in on the AM day of choice and have dinner 6-8 hours later.

I second grill. Especially now that it's so nice out. (well, getting there!)

Grilled chicken legs is a favorite for us. They're cheap & always on sale at the grocery store. I buy them on sale & toss them in the freezer for when we need them. A couple fancy bbq sauces for the various tastes, & viola! I almost always pair it with chopped potatoes & onions roasted in a tinfoil bag w/ herbs on the grill. Just add a couple tablespoons of oil or butter and a few icecubes & whatever herbs you have around. Delicious!

What about a pressure cooker? They're fast and don't have lead problems.

We do appetizers, like crackers, cheeses, olives, cut up veggies, etc on the weekend. Also, we like to do sandwiches of different kinds....what we call "famous grilled cheese" with tomatoes from the garden in the summer.

Sometimes I also do " Pick your own dinner night!!" from the stuff we have. LOL ( exclamation point to make it seem fun!) which really just means pick your own leftover of the week.

When you are in a pinch, some pizza chains do a $5 large cheese pizza....

I cook from scratch a lot as well, but am realistic with myself that there are some nights I just don't have the energy to cook. For me this usually happens during the week.

When they go on sale, I stock up on frozen pizzas. Sure I could make pizza homemade, but I have to think about it in time to get the dough in the breadmaker. I also stock my freezer with homemade meals, but there are days that even these things are too much effort.

If it saves us from ordering take-out, I am perfectly ok with a cook-from-frozen pizza from time to time.
