potty learning, nursing, and night waking

my dd is in underwear during the day but still wears a diaper at night. she also nurses (a lot!) at night, and usually wakes up with probably 1 or 2 pees in her diaper. the problem is, she's waking up now when she pees. i know this is part of the nighttime dryness learning process (my older DD went through it, but she was night weaned at 18 months so the nighttime milk wasn't an issue).

my conundrum is i can't fathom how a night-nursing toddler can stay dry all night. is it possible? will she just learn to sleep through the peeing, or should i take her to the potty when she wakes up? my older DD i could just sit on the potty and she'd pee, totally asleep, and go right back to bed, but this younger one cries if i try that... she doesn't like to be messed with in her sleep.

it's not that i care when she's dry at night, and i'm not trying to teach her to wake up to pee. i just don't want night pees to disturb her and my sleep. any thoughts/experience? doesn't look like she's going to night wean anytime soon either.

thanks!

Yes, they can learn to hold it, even when night nursing! DS was daytime potty trained at 17 months but still wore a diaper at night. Some mornings he would be dry, some mornings soaked. At 18 months, I just decided to not put a diaper on him and he didn't have an accident at night for about a week - this was with nursing ALL night long! We nightweaned at 21 months but even now, he's drinking water occasionally when he wakes up and I've noticed that the nights he has an accident are when he's sick or REALLY teething (as opposed to the normal teething he's been going through since 4 months old????)

You could always try just not putting a diaper on at night and see what happens. Any time he wakes up, I just ask him if he needs to go potty, we have it right next to his mattress on the floor so we don't even have to get up to go anywhere. Some nights he will sit on it in the middle of the night and some nights he doesn't want to. I just remind him "no pee pee on in the bed"

I personally don't believe children can be trained to keep dry at night. It's a developmental thing. My DD was completely out of diapers at 20 months during the day, but she still wears diapers at night (she's 4.5). If you're worried that your child would just rather pee in the diaper than get up to use the bathroom, you could try cloth which is not so comfy when wet.
