Probably the easiest mei tai to buy new that has a sleeping hood is the Catbird Baby mei tai:
http://www.catbirdbaby.com/catalog/s...oduct/idcat/7/
It has padded shoulder straps and a sleep hood that ties to the shoulder straps, and an unpadded waist. They seem reasonably priced and are a well known brand. All styles should have the sleeping hood, but you may want to email just to double check.
You could also look at Beanslings, Bamberoo, Kindercarry. These aren't as easy to find new and are more expensive. They should all have padded shoulder AND waist straps, as well as hoods.

this link should take you to my photobucket. you should be able to page through the entire folder.
it is the first project i ever finished. well, except that blanket i crocheted for DD1. lol. it all went really well except that i sewed 2 of the panels together backwards and didnt realize until it was mostly done. so my mom helped me top stitch a new panel on top. it might be one more layer thick but at least it looks right. also the original hood size didnt look long enough to me so i added the little extension afterwards. i really like it and it helps fold it up into a headrest.
i intentionally padded the hood so that i can convert it to a headrest if i choose. it has padded shoulders and a padded waist. and it has loops all over on both sides for everything. to tie the hood up, to tie the hood down, and on the waist straps for whatever. i had two four leftoever loops so i added them.
i used a denim weight material for the straps and the body. then dec fabric for accent. the padding was unbleached cotton quilting padding.
i havent washed it yet. but i cant wait to see how the padding settles after wards. iit is very comfy right now but i am hoping the padding squishes flatter a little esp around the shoulders. i am sure with wear it will become perfect. i am very happy with it and cant wait to try another one. i had so much fun. it was the first time i had used a serger. i made it at my moms house. i so loved her fancy sewing machin that i want one! mine is a 1976 kenmore that only does a straight stitch. and hers was all digital and it had no foot feed. i have caught the bug. next project.....summer dresses for the kids.

Great job!
Yikes! That carrier looks downright painful! The straps are sooo skinny and totally unpadded. There are definitely better options on etsy!
