Dh has infected hair follicles on face...rec'ds please!

He has made several trips to the dermatalagist and each time he returns with an rx for doxycycline. He was diagnosed with folliculitis.....probably from shaving/clothing rubbing on the area..etc. He has huge red welt like bumps on his neck and sides of face. Obviously the antibiotic isn't helping....he has been taking it for months (literally). I know a simple fix could be for him to stop shaving, but that isn't an option for him......so, if anyone knows of any creams, essential oils, remedies to help with a bacterial infection on the skin, this would be greatly appreciated!!

maybe teatree oil but I don't know the dosage.

My ex-boyfriend was of Jamaican descent and he would get ingrown hairs on his beard/neck all the time. Saunas, steam rooms and steam facials (over a pot of boiling water on the stove or using a little facial steam appliance from the drug store) would help, but sometimes, I would help by using tweezers to pull the long hairs that were stuck inside the skin out of the skin. I alternated between tweezing them completely out (good for a while) or pulling them out then trimming them long enough so they didn't go back into the skin.

Does he steam his skin prior to shaving? Perhaps that would help?

He usually shaves right after his shower, so lots of steam there......

What if he were to use a trimmer instead? That is what my DH does, just out of habit. Then the hair isn't cut so short that it curls right back up into his face, as it stays out a teeny bit. Since he's blondeish-light-brown-haired, he doesn't mind having a bit of visible stubble, outside of his goatee.
