And would you believe Resolution #2, which I am henceforth going to refer to on this thread as the screwing-in-the-lightbulb resolution actually won? Well, I guess that's why it's a joke.

Wow. that's a very close margin! Not subject to re-do, I guess?

Thanks for the sympathy.

Wow! That was the longest and most volatile annual meeting I have attended at my church!

Now I'm just glad it's over and I can turn my attention to other things.

Anyone chair of the Religious Services Committee at your church? Tips? Advice?

Dale McGowan will be speaking at the UU General Assembly in Minneapolis!

Now, I will not be there to hear him, and if I think about this too much the idea of the author of a book sub-titled "On Raising Ethical, Caring Kids Without Religion" speaking at a religious convention is kind of
but I think this is very cool, nevertheless.

ahhhhh, big sigh of relief.

The end of the church fiscal year is coming, and my term on the board of trustees is ending. Last night was the going away party for our minister of 9 years. I so did not want to be the person coordinating the party. I said so several times I sent email pleas out to a large number of people asking that someone step up/in to take that on. I wound up being the go to person for the party. But it went off without a hitch! UU's throw a great pot luck. Today will be his last day preaching, and I just get to go to church and sit and listen, I'm not in charge of anything today. Woo hoo! I've been teaching RE these last two months but we decided our teens would probably like to hear our ministers last sermon for our church and we have some child care people doing games / making father's day cards with the little kids. My dad's flying out to GA today. I'm guessing he has some early meetings etc.

I was going to go next year, being Arizona and not far from Los Angeles. But the latest on the voting at GA this year (and I hope they pass this) is to change GA for next year and boycott AZ because of the horrible recently passed legislation in AZ. So we'll see what happens. I wonder where they will hold GA if they cancel phoenix for 2011. I imagine they already have some ideas in place.

Artgoddess - glad to hear it went so well!

Adele - I'm sorry to hear about the decisions that were made.

Today was the last Sunday our minister will be joining us. She is moving to a congregation a few provinces away. For her, it is great! Tons of kids in the congregation, she is closer to her two kids who will be having grandchildren soon. We will miss her though.

Today was also our flower service and they welcomed new members (my husband and I were two of the three). It was lovely and they gave us some books and pins. They also had cake We also had a small bridging ceremony, which was beautiful. Since I am coming to UU as an adult, this was never part of my growing up, but I hope that I can bring that to my daughter (and future children we hope to have). It is amazing how much our culture doesn't celebrate important transitions in our lives. I really loved how it all happened and the beauty in it's simplicity was great but the significance that underlies it all was...I don't even have words. I was almost crying and I have only known her less than a year! We certainly wish her all the best as she heads off to university in the fall.

Last week, I led an early summer solstice service. I happen to have trained as a wiccan priestess, so it is my background and a faith tradition I still walk every day, so it felt so normal. After the service was over, I was flooded with people telling me how great it was. One woman told me that she had not planned on coming because she was feeling very sad but she was glad she did as she was leaving so happy. I was still getting thanks almost a week after for having put the service together. As for me, I am just happy to have shared a part of me with the congregation and I feel like they might just understand a little bit more of who I am. In the service, everyone got to let something go that was no longer useful to them (thought, action, wish, etc) and they got to plant something new (and literally plant seeds to blossom). This week, I went to check on the plants, there were some that sprouted almost 4 inches! How awesome!

singin angel that's great about the service. Congrats on the many compliments I'm sure it was great. I love the bridging ceremony. We have trouble holding teens in our small church school, and there is one great teen who comes week after week. She's finally kind of done with being the only one. So she has asked if she can be the teacher aide for the year for the younger class. She wants to build her resume for college and she loves the little kids. She'll be in 10th grade next year and I really really want us to do a coming of age thing for her.

artgoddess - I hope you finally get to take a break now! That's great that the send-off party went well. You must be a very capable and energetic person. Your church is lucky to have you!

singin_angel - your solstice service sounds wonderful! That is such a great ritual of letting things go and planting the seeds of something new.
