Mixing breast milk with formula?

I am an EPer. My little girl does not like breast milk that has been frozen. I have been trying to use my frozen stash (old stuff) and I have to mix 1/3 frozen to 2/3 fresh to get her to drink it. I am having alot of problems with milk blisters/blebs and have been in excruciating pain for a few weeks. Nipple pain is the WORST. She's 7 mo now and I am wondering when I calling it quits with pumping can I mix the frozen with formula to hid the taste of the frozen milk? I'm not going to do this for quite awhile, just doing research. She's too young to get anything else but my milk. But I need to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I know alot of people who do.
I would think that it changes the "shelf life" of it though, so would probably need to be used right when mixed and not put back in the fridge or sit out on the counter.

Hang in there!

Mixing formula with breastmilk is a bad idea. The formula can break down some of the good stuff in breastmilk. It's better to give breastmilk first, and then formula.

As for your daughter not liking frozen breastmilk -- I bet it's high in lipase. Read more here: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/l...essedmilk.html

Also, with your pain, I'm wondering if there's a problem with the fit or the settings of your pump. Adjusting your pump might make a big difference.

have you tried to use a smaller or larger flange?

as for mixing, i did with ds when i ep'ed. i started out with a small amout of formula (1 oz formula to 3 oz bmilk) and upped it until he was all formula (at about 8 mos). i thawed the bmilk out and then mixed the formula and added it in. be sure to use it right away and don't store the formula mixed with the bmilk. always make them up separately and mix them together right before feeding. gently swirl...don't shake!

my dd doesn't like thawed bmilk warmed. we give it to her straight from the fridge in a sippy, but she only gets n ounce or two here and there.

congrats on ep'ing for so long!

I had 6 mo fine with pumping now in the last mo/mo 1/2 I seem to get these milk blisters/blebs. Not sure why it would happen now. It's so painful. I did get a full bottle of frozen into her today, it was cold, so thanks for the advice!
