and still not in a good labor pattern. I need some sort of pep talk cause I'm getting really discouraged. I'm staying out of the hospital for now and my 'doula' who is actually a midwife is in contact with me and is hopeful, but I'm kind of freaking out cause I don't want pitocin and don't want an infection for me or the baby. Anyone have a story like this with a positive outcome?
Thanks and congratulations to all of you who've had your babies, hopefully really soon I will be on that side of the fence!

I chose to do pit after 30+ hours of rupture (and no rest, lots of prodromal labor that just wouldn't get into a good pattern). The pit sucked (but was probably about as painful as my labor with a posterior baby), but worked really efficiently and finally got him out. If I had been able to REST while waiting for labor, I would have been willing to wait longer for my body to get him out without the pit.

Nipple stimulation was mildly successful for me (I tried it for about 2 hours), and I'd definitely recommend at least trying that before pit (I do wonder if I could have kept at it longer and been more successful -- we got minute+ long contractions every 2-3 minutes with nipple stimulation, but they flat out STOPPED when I stopped the stimulation). Based on the research I've read (vs. the one line warnings with no back-up) don't think there's a real risk of hyper-stimulating my uterus with nipple stimulation.

DDCC

My first labor was like that (and second, too, though contractions did start aboout 12 hours after my water broke with that one). The only thing that really helped for me was walking + gravity. I stayed up, stayed walking, and did that for what felt like an endless afternoon and evening. I did take some breaks to rest and sit and eat, but otherwise we were up and walking. With my second labor, when my water broke in the late PM, I was up in the wee hours doing miles on the treadmill.

With my first labor, my water broke just before 10am (might have been 9am), and we didn't go to the hospital with contractions until very late that night...they were still irrigular. I didn't get regular, even contractions until somewhere between 2 and 4 that morning (after walking most of the day and most of the night), but after that things really started going.

Stay confident! You can do this!

Could be just the forewaters(those in front of the baby's head) or maybe the fluid between the two sacs(maybe only one broke- happens sometimes. Have you spent any time on hands and knees to make sure baby isn't posterior? Just water breaking by itself isn't a reason to be too concerned, as long as you arent putting anything in there, and checking your temperature every 4 hrs, I am sure your midwife has everything under control. Looking forward to your birth story!

Sorry I posted and disappeared....we went to hospital at 1am that night with regular (finally) and strong contractions. Labor was still slow and our little girl wasn't born until 9am, but I did it with NO interventions at all...yah!!!! We had a very understanding and patient dr and my midwife/doula was amazing!!

We have a daughter now, Allison Elizabeth, 8lbs 7oz 20 inches long....so happy and relieved that I'm on the other side now...

Congrats to all of you and best brithing vibes to those of you waiting on your little bundles to arrive!!! Birth is so amazing and powerful and just wow!!!
