\ "dress up" for your birthing?

Anyone dress up for the birthing time??

I really want to wear something I love this time around. I wore a nice dress with my last birth, but felt too exposed when they had to check my belly and go up underneath my dress. Then when my water broke it got me totally soaked head to toe and taking it off was really a not-good moment for me being exposed like that.

This time I'm thinking maybe buying a reallllly nice tankini and wearing a knee-length skirt to match.

Anyne else done this?

I had a hospital birth last time. At some point I tore my robe off and was naked through the rest of the birth. I assume in my own home I'll just be naked. I want baby to have immediate skin to skin anyway, so it will just be that much easier.

I had on a nursing bra and a sarong tied loosely around my hips. It worked well for me since I was covered enough for my comfort but the midwives had easy access to my belly for checking the heart rate. It was important to me that I wouldn't feel restricted so I liked being able to tie the skirt.

With my hospital birth I wore a cheap but very cozy nighty. I just pushed it up to be out of the way when it needed to be, and pulled it down (it was very stretchy) to nurse. It got a bit beat up (cheap threads that rip on a stretchy tank nighty) during birth and the weeks afterwards, but it cleaned up fine (it is black) and I will very likely use it again. But a tank and skirt might work... I might get bugged by the stuff touching me though...

I've been thinking about this

This is my first home birth - I'm probably going to wear a short sundress or my softest, coziest night gown. Anything that's cotton and flowy will be good, and when I'm ready I guess I'll be naked!

I think I'll splurge on a really nice, expensive sports or sleep type nursing bra, and hip wrap, both of which I'll put on when I start to get uncomfortable.

I am not comfortable naked, even in labor.

I'm not comfy being naked either, out of modesty.

what is a hip wrap? Is that a certain brand of skirt?

It is more just a shorter skirt that easily ties/unties at the hip/on the side. I was actually thinking of a swim pareo, as it will be much easier to find a variety than a "birth skirt."

Ooh that's so pretty. If I decide against a water birth I think I'd like something like that.

Right now I found these that I really like:

Though at those prices I'm seriously considering making my own!

I laboured in the tub this time, and I just wore a tank top. It worked really well for me. For labour on dry land the pareo or a sarong sounds perfect. Most of them clean up pretty well too, depending on the fabric.

I'm glad someone asked this, because I was wondering the same thing, but thought it was silly to even bring up. Personally, I'm not modest at all. I have no problem being completely naked knowing it's going to be just DH, midwives, and my mom.

The only thing I am wondering about is pictures. I want it to be recorded and pictures taken, but I'm not sure about my breasts being exposed because I probably would want to show some pics to like my father and in-laws.

I'm thinking about just wearing like a sports bra or something like that, since I'm planning on having a waterbirth and you won't be able to see "down there" that well.

I stayed in my pajamas until I got in the tub, at which point I just wore a comfy black nursing/sleep bra. I wanted pictures taken right after he was born, and the bra worked out really well.

I went out of my way with my 1st homebirth to make sure i had comfy laboring clothes. I had 3 sports bras on hand, because i was adamant i wouldnt be naked while birthing but wanted a water birth. I also had a few skirts and shorts. With ever cm i dilated i ended up stripping off all my clothes, except my sports bra. But i was very uncomfy with it wet right after she was born. So that came off too, and by then i didnt care.

Homebirth #2, same thing happened and i was glad i didnt pay for new clothes lol. this time im just using what i have and hoping that i become more comfy with birthing nude. We shall see!

I think next time I will buy a cute labor gown. Last time I cheaped out and now looking back at pictures I regret it. I like the BYOG brand, they are pricey, but I figure it is a celebration and for me it is no different than buying a dress for a special occasion.

Check out Etsy. There are some nice ones that aren't as pricey http://www.etsy.com/search_results.p..._type=handmade

Thanks, these are cute! I wonder how difficult it would be to make my own?

I plan on wearing a wrap skirt (if I ever get around to making it) and a cami/tank top for labor.
That way, everything's easily accessible, and I've got enough coverage that I can walk outside and sit on the porch if I want to (or answer the door if I happen to order a pizza. )

I'm not sure the clothes will stay on once I hit transition, though.

Been thinking about this too I am very modest and keeping cover means a lot to me been looking at these.

None of them I would ever wear outside my house but seem to cover me enough that I can have my water birth in it.

I'm doing what i did with DD - i wore what i was wearing when labour began, slowly stripping or dressing as i got too hot or cold, then stripped off to get in the tub and was naked until she was born. I don't see the point in being modest in my own home (but i'm European and not that modest anyway!) and my father will hopefully be AT the birth so i'm not worried about him seeing pics of anything he saw right in front of him.
