anyone tried disposable inserts in various kinds of covers?

Anyone out there tried disposable inserts in a non-brand related cover?

For example, could I put a gdiaper or Grobaby insert in a Thirsties cover? Or, do I have to use the inserts with their respective covers? I'm just looking for on-the-go options.

I'm wondering this as well. We will be traveling for 5 days next week and I was thinking about picking up the gDiapers flushables to use in my covers (Bummis/Thirsties/DryBees)

Do I really need to buy the gPants to use the inserts succesfully?

I don't know for sure, but think it would perform as well as a trifolded pf. I'd give it a try.
