Withdrawal method

Thread Starter
Me & my partner have been using this method for about 3 years now, and have never had an accident. i was just wondering what are the chances that i could fall pregnant using this method? i would like to have a child as we have been together for over 4 years now, my partner says he would like to have a child, but he just isnt quite he would definetely like to have a child right now sort of thing. Althought we have used this method for 3 years, its never been around the time i have been ovulating. However this month we had sex 3 times using the po method the week i was ovulating. Is there a chance i could be pregnant?

Most definitely you could be pregnant. It's possible to ovulate late or early and it's possible those swimmers hang around longer than expected.

From Planned Parenthood.com:

How Effective Is Withdrawal?

Effectiveness is an important and common concern when choosing a birth control method. Like all birth control methods, the pull out method is much more effective when you do it correctly.

* Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 4 will become pregnant each year if they always do it correctly.
* Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 27 will become pregnant each year if they don't always do it correctly.

Couples who have great self-control, experience, and trust may use the pull out method more effectively.

There is a chance (because if you've had sex, there's always some sort of chance), but it is slim. If your guy has urinated since he last ejaculated there should not have been sufficient sperm in his pre-ejaculate to cause any trouble. When people get into issues with the w/d method is when they have sex multiple times in the same "session" without the urethra being cleared by urination.

Nope not me.. But we do have 2 children that is the Failed Withdraw Method, when we failed to do so we had a baby every time.. But we have been using this Method about 9 years with No Babies.. while Using the(Method Correctly!!!) And we have Sex as much as we won't during the fertile times in my cycle!! So It is All good here.

We used the method correctly, no failure, for 6 years before our "oops" baby. (our second baby was planned).

TCOYF has some stats on that. I don't have my book right now to look it up so my #s might not be exactly correct. Method failure for withdrawal is only 1% higher than for condoms, 4% or 5% if I remember correctly. User failure is 19%, I believe. So, like any other natural bc, it's all in how well you practice it.

We use withdrawal, haven't had it fail yet. Here is an article on it from the guttmacher institute http://www.guttmacher.org/media/nr/2.../15/index.html

We used to use it. Then I got pregnant.

I've never seen anyone get pregnant from method failure. Lots of people say they did, but if you do some digging, I have personally found that mostly it was user failure (man forgot to pull, alcohol involved, etc). Of course if the woman WANTS to get pregnant, I believe that is becomes marginally less effective (the pray component!). However, I really wanted to get pregnant for at least 2 of the 4 years I used this method and no dice! Yet when I have actually tried, I have always gotten pregnant instantly, so . . .

*raises hand* I've got a one-year-old to prove it. He pulled out in time, no alcohol.

No method failure for us. No alcohol either.

We also use this method..Infact we just decided to be more careful around O time as last cycle we used 3 times during the most fertile time(1 day before O, 3 days and 4 days before O and 1 day right after). I am sure we have done so many times because I can tell around that time is the most enjoyable.

It is kind of hard to tell if it was human error or not as they say sperm can be in the clear pre-cum but mostly if the guy goes more than once in a row or hasnt peed to clear out the rest sperm.

Yep, that's how #3 came along for us!

I've used this method for about five years. I wanted to get pregnant the last two, but it was still effective. We are very experienced together and he has great self control. This is one of the few birth control methods that actually falls on the man for effectiveness instead of the woman. Although I almost F@#$ed it up a few times when we climaxed together and I couldn't get off of him in time. Sorry if TMI. We don't chart so I am sure we used this method during fertile times with no problems. We DTD a lot all through the month. Except for AF time, despite my begging and pleading. again TMI. I know some people who use withdrawl through the month and then don't pull out during AF. I think you have a small chance of pregnancy this way though. I love MDC. I could never talk about this stuff with my girlfriends!

Dh and I have used this method for the last 6 years. Both of my children were concieved during times we didn't "withdraw". However, I am pregnant with #3 right now and this time the method was a total fail. We didn't do anything different, yet here I am pregnant

So, like any birth control, it can fail. But I say once out of 6 years for us is a pretty good rate.

This method in conjunction with charting has been successful for us.

i am pregnant with a withdrawl baby.. my DH pulled out in plenty of time, had not been drinking etc .. we have 2 theories about how this could have happened.. one is that i got pregnant through my belly button (haha) and the other is that i wasn't very careful during clean up (using a towel).. either way, it should have been a super slim chance yet here i am 18 weeks pg so something happened... we did DTD the day before and 2 days before i ovulated..

i had done all the research and was very confident in using this birth control method.. (since we were planning a 3rd child eventually.. ) but it seems to have failed miserably for us.. which is annoying because we had to try for months and months with both of our other children..

It's been working perfectly for us for 1 year. Its so fustrating cuz I agreed to this method, believing that I would get my desired baby after all.

Dh and I never used the withdrawl method except for 1 time. We knew I was ovulating, we wanted to avoid but neglected to reach for the condom. The beautiful product of that evening is nursing to sleep as I type!

It was a result of my ovulation and his lack of practice...we were just lucky.
Maybe you'll be too. Yes it is possible.

This sums up my feelings sometimes. I am honestly surprised at its effectiveness. I had thought previously before using/researching this method that it would result in instant pregnancy during O.
