LOL, the licensing workers haven't been asked this before

We're getting licensed to foster/adopt through the state. For foster, they only require the adult to have physicals, and we already submitted those. For adoption, it's required that our children have physicals. I have the forms, and was going to make appointments today. My kids go to a naturopathic doc. So, I called the licensing workers to see if this is okay, or they need to be seen by an MD. The worker said "Wow, this hasn't come up before" LOL! Of course, the regulations are a bit ambiguous, he found that the wording says they need to be seen by a licensed physician. And, the doc is a licensed NATUROPATHIC physician.......so, the worker is going to do some digging and lmk.

We posed a few new ones to our agency too with regard to some of the info/paperwork we needed to provide for our adoption.

But the funniest thing happened when I took the kids in for their physicals (also required by the state to adopt). Now my kids don't get many physicals, I generally work with a homeopath, but I had to have these forms filled out so off to the MD we go....

Well, the forms required a urinalysis and my boys downright refused to do it! I don't think they have *ever* had a urinalysis before, so they were somewhat shocked at the idea. My then 7yo ds then asked me so matter-of factly, "Mom, why do we have to pee in a cup to adopt a baby?" I cracked up, and let the whole thing slide. Fortunately, I never heard a word from our agency, apparently they couldn't see the logic in it either.

LOL! Wow, a urinanalysis? Here it's just a general physical, no biggie. I will take them to the regular doc, but I really hate dealing with his nurse, and don't want to deal with a vax lecture; so that's why I wanted to go w/the naturopath. I still haven't heard back.

So odd that for foster care the kids don't need one (just the adults) but for adoption they do; and for foster care we need our home inspected (safety inspection done by the state), but for adoption we don't! :

Here we need to have a foster liscense in order to adopt. From what I understand, we have a lot of red tape that may not be the case in other states. We also had to meet requirements as far as the home is concerned, like a certain amt of square feet per child, and each child must have a separate mattress! We do have enough, but we only use 2. Fortunately our SW was very pro-family bed.

The vaccine issue turned out ok as my dr. does not push them, and the agency was respectful of our practices. Thank goodness! The worry over that stuff was almost enough to keep us from adopting!

Wow, here they are pretty lax. Foster and adopt are totally separate, but if you want to adopt they encourage you to get licensed for both (hence the foster/adopt) because the majority of infants are adopted by foster parents, they are the first choice.

I'm getting so darn inpatient. We've done everything (well, except for the kids physicals since they haven't gotten back to me yet) and are just waiting on the home inspection, which has to be done by the state. And they take forever.

Since we've never adopted before, we didn't realize how red tapish the process is here. Even our agency, based in OR but also w/an office here commented on how much stuff we have to go through regarding the state's authorities (DCFS).

Anyway, I hope your process goes smoothly. The end results are so worth it.....
