*Another* nursing strike

My DS is 10-months-old & has gone on frequent nursing strikes for the past 7 months. It started because my supply was really low when he was 3-months-old and while we were trying to fix it, we gave him 2-3 bottles of frozen EBM per day. After 2 weeks of the constant nursing strikes, we stopped all bottles and instead used an SNS to supplement at the breast if needed.

But ever since then, he goes on nursing strikes at the drop of a hat. Right now, I think he's getting a cold, which is probably what caused this one, but I'm so frustrated! Plus, since I've had low supply problems in the past, I'm always paranoid that it's going to happen again.

So far, we've tried limiting solids (which led to a complete hunger strike for almost 2 days ), not giving bottles or cups (which led to very low diaper output and still didn't increase his nursing), offering at different times of day/night, offering when he's really tired or half asleep, making sure there are no distractions, etc. Is there anything I'm missing? Has anyone experienced this? I really want to continue the nursing relationship *at least* until he's 18 mos old, but right now, I feel like I'm forcing it on him against his will.

There are several reasons for nursing strikes, and sometimes you can never find a reason. Could be teething, developmental milestones, stress, etc. Starving a baby into nursing is no longer recommended. Just continue to offer the breast but if he fusses or doesn't want it, don't force it. And if he senses your stress about it, that will make it worse as well. In the meantime, keep expressing milk to keep your supply up and give it to him from a cup. Sleep close to him at night if possible so you can offer it during the night if he wakes.

Don't give up, babies typically won't wean on their own before 18-24 months so just continue to offer nursing. Maybe he needs a dark, quiet place, have you tried lying down with him to nurse? Or different positions?
