Edelweiss is our fourth baby, our first girl, our seventh pregnancy, our rainbow baby after three miscarriages. She was to be our third home waterbirth, our fourth out-of-hospital birth. Instead she came by c-section after presenting in an undeliverable face presentation 7cm into labor and turning breech en route to the hospital.
I learned a great deal on this journey. Ultimately, I realize that birth cannot be controlled, her birth cannot be changed and I must focus on the beauty in how she arrived. The slideshow is helping me heal. I hope it helps other women whose plans for a natural birth are dashed. No matter how our babies arrive, we are mothers and our work deserves to be honored.
