I don't know if you saw it, but there was a baby that died because the head slipped down." Um. Okay. How do I respond to this?! I said, "oh, that's sad. The slings are awesome, they make life so much easier." Then went on to pay for my groceries. Ugh! I promise I'm not doing something that I think will harm my baby! I think I need to put a giant patch on the front of the sling that says, "I'd rather not have your unsolicited advice." or "Beware of Mama Bear, becomes aggressive when aggravated.".
My response: "Oh, thanks! But those were a different kind of sling and a different kind of carry." Sometimes I even give more information, like explaining the problems with the bag slings. People shut up in the face of someone who knows what they're talking about.

Grr. Older DD and DH have a nasty cold/cough/sore throat. And I've got an achy body and a plugged duct.

ROP, one thing that I do when I change DS2 when this happens is just say something like "Hey baby, you're peeing/pooping!" , start that association process. Perfect for the lazy EC'er .

Ick! Healing for you and yours.

We EC! We caught 3 poops and 3 pees yesterday, plus 1 poop and 1 pee this today. That's it so far, but for me that's good in the newborn stage. I'm still trying to figure out when she needs to go. I do like mamacatsbaby - if I notice the baby peeing or pooping when I'm changing her diaper or any other time not on the potty, I just make the sound so she'll learn to associate it with elimination. I think it helps a lot. I definitely don't attempt to catch every pee or poo. I just do what I can and it seemed to work with DD1, who stopped pooping in diapers at 6 months old. We'll see how this goes with the new babe. I don't know that I'll be able to be quite as attentive, so it might not work as well, but maybe the fact that I've already got some experience will help to balance that out. Either way I'm okay with whatever works.

I'm about to have a break down over the sheer number of onesies we have. I *hate* them. I want to do longies/shorties/wool this time, and onesies are*not* really doing it for me. Stupid onesies. And why do people keep bringing them? GAH! You know, I don't even care about the entire one-piece outfits, so much (though they'll fit for what, like a week with cloth underneith?) but it's the fact that every little shirt has stupid snaps! ARGH! I just went through and hacked off the bottom of a bunch of t-shirt onesies, and now I'm not sure whether to hem them or not, but being that I'm not any kind of sewing goddess, I'm worried I'd do it wrong and they wouldn't fit or would bunch or... Meh. No clue what I'm going to do about the shirts for the outfits - I don't even wanna use the pants, at all, b/c i wanna do longies! *sigh*

Mamacatsbaby I will try that! Thanks for the idea

Yes, totally. I did say that they were a different kind of sling, but this guy clearly had no clue. Ah well.

Okay ladies, I have a question and I'm hoping maybe you can help me. Waits has had some baby acne on his face since he was born, which is fine (and even pretty cute, if I do say so myself).

But recently he's developed a 'rash' on his torso, that looks identical to the baby acne. It started in the area along the waistband of his diapers, but then it spread up to his chest and down his legs. It's not a thick rash, just a spattering of little bumps here and there.

So could this be acne? Or is it diaper rash? (I always thought diaper rash was more splotchy) Any ideas of what it may be, and should I call the doc?

Thanks guys!

hm... Sophia got some when she was maybe a month (or less?) old, supposedly it's from maternal hormones, but if you're worried, it can't hurt to call

We had our PKU done today (4 days post partum). DS had regained his birthweight He lost quite a bit in the first two days so I was very happy to see him gain it back already I knew he would, but it always feels good to see it happen.

I think it's probably normal. DD had some rashy spots that appeared on her arms and torso a couple days after she was born... it faded away another day or two later.

So the Chiro appointment didn't help with my hip pain... it can still be pretty severe at times and I'm starting to worry about it since it seems to be getting worse, or certainly isn't getting better. We're at 9 days post birth at this point and I'm not adjust well to dealing with this much pain/discomfort in trying to walk or lay in bed at night. sigh. I'll give it a few more days and then start to see what else I can do for it.

Unrelated, I got left with the two little ones today while dh took the oldest for get her hair cut. DD2 seems to be going downhill with the crankiness since dd3 was born -- so I was very thankful when a friend stopped by with lunch and her two kids so that dd2 got a good distraction for a while. I sure hope she adjusts to things soon though because I think everyone's patience is starting to wear a little thin at this point.

I'm in a similar boat with my kids- hoping things even out soon! I know they are good kids but sometimes a bit more cooperation would really help!

no clue if we're done... doing something to physically change how our bodies work (taking hormone BC or surgery, what have you) doesn't feel right to us considering how the rest of our lives is all about creating conditions (health through food, etc) for making our bodies work the best they possibly can and living "clean", but i don't really think I want more... but the birth was so awesome, and I'd love to try for another girl... I dunno.

Right now we're gonna be living in flux w/pull n' pray, I guess? (once we start back up, that is ) Could be a few more kids, considering I'm only 29 - got some fertility time left, probably...
