Questions to ask on hospital tour

I am planning a natural birth at the hospital with a doula. I want the baby in the room with me the entire time and I want to breastfeed.

That being said, what are some specific questions I should be asking on my tour tomorrow?

Do you allow/support rooming-in for the entire hospital stay?
Do you have a lactation consultant available every day?
Do you have birthing tubs?
Can women give birth in the tubs?
Do women give birth in alternative positions?
Do you have birthing balls? Stools?
Do you labor in the same room you give birth in? Recover in?
Are laboring women encouraged or allowed to walk the halls or stay mobile?
Are all/some of the labor nurses familiar with natural births? How familiar?
Do you have any doulas or midwives on staff?
Can we bring our own music? Do we need to bring a cd player or speakers?
Are candles allowed? Aromatherapy?
How are birth plans viewed?
Can children visit?

...gotta go, but those are the ones that come to mind first. Stuff like epidural rates, c-section rates, etc. are also useful, but would probably be more useful stats coming from your ob or midwife. Other stuff, more specific to your birth plan, are also best saved for a conversation with your care provider.

Thank you so much for your reply! It was VERY helpful. Our tour went well and we got all of our questions asked and learned a lot.

I guess I'm too late, but I always ask what their c-section rate is.

Also, can you eat/drink during labor.

Is an IV standard? If so, can I get a hep-lock instead?

Birth balls/birth tubs/etc.

Do you do rooming in?

What is your policy on monitoring? Do you have telemetry rooms available? If so, how many?

How many people can be in the room during birth?

If a teaching hospital, ask about residents/med students participation. Can you opt out, etc. (If that's important to you. I remember being shocked with my second birth to have two med students as well as two OB residents join my already small room. My OB wanted them to see a natural birth...LOL)
