Dh is having a kidney & ureteroscopy this coming Thursday. This will be done under general anesthesia, by a urologist. They said he'll be in the hospital up to 6 hours.

He has a large kidney stone (they'll probably not be able to take care of it with this procedure, it will need to be hit with the sonic lithotripsy) and swelling at the mid-point in the ureter. They told him they may put in a stent that would be removed later (that part worries him!). He also has some mild swelling of the prostate, so they'll look at that, too..

They don't sound too concerned about all this, but want to make sure things are okay. There's been no mention of cancer concerns or anything.

Anyway, from those that have been there and done that, what can he expect as far as recovery? Bleeding/pain when he urinates? Will he be in measurable pain, needing heavy stuff, or will Tylenol do the trick? What can I do to keep him comfortable? Will he be able to lift anything over the weekend, or is his garden going to have to do without him for a few days? Ds (age 11) already knows to be gentle with him.

Lucky dh, he's only had minor procedures in his adult life: his vasectomy and a small surgery on his foot. He's nervous, but says he isn't (a wife knows ).

He wants to know about the recovery beforehand, not when he is in post-op (I'll be with him, but still...). He wants to hear about other guy's experiences, positive or negative. I know that many gals have had this done, too, but you know how men want to hear things from other men!

Thanks, for any and all info you have to offer!
