TTC, 10 months PP had mirena removed

Thread Starter
I'm currently 10 months post partum and my husband and I have decided that we're going to start TTC next month for #2. Here's my problem; I had a mirena IUD from 8 weeks PP to 8 months PP when I had it removed because it was giving me awful pain and bleeding (still). I haven't had any bleeding at all since having it removed.
I've been trying to temp (which is not going well with a 10 month old who demands my attention first thing in the morning) and follow my CM. I'm not having any consistent patterns. At all. Fertility friend is confused. I'm confused.
I guess I'm not ovulating yet because I still breastfeed frequently? Or could I still be ovulating? Am I going to be able to get pregnant before I have my first PP period?
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Should we just DTD everyday when we start TTC or is it hopeless until my period returns or my baby weans (which won't be for a very long time hopefully)?

Thats quite possible. If you aren't getting PP AF yet, your fertility is not back. Once you ovulate, your AF will follow a week or two later (yes, a week! because breastfeeding may or may not cause an LP defect) or you will get a bfp.

You might ovulate once and not know it, but until you get AF or a bfp, ovulation probably hasn't happened (unless it happened within the past week or two...) it will NOT happen more than once without either getting AF or a BFP in between.

No one can say... is it possible? Sure. Will you be able to? I don't know your body that well and from how it sounds neither do you. So maybe, maybe not. Unfortunately the only way to know is for it to happen or not.

That would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tiring I am sure. Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? It is a VERY helpful book and explains all of the signs of fertility... if you DTD frequently around those signs, you increase your chance of catching the first PP egg. Continuing to chart should also clue you in if Ovulation may have possibly happened so you know whether to wait 2 weeks and test... or just watch for more signs to show up (women frequently get fertile signs when not fertile when breastfeeding, so its best to have that backup)

As for when your fertility will return, that is up to your body... but if baby is still nursing frequently, it is not likely to happen until baby weans some... like no night feeding, going hours through the day without feedings, not completely for most women, just weaning some is good enough! Enough for your body to get the message that you no longer have baby relying on you for nourishment. Which is different for every woman. For me, EBFing was not enough to hold off my fertility and it returned on schedule with both kids.
