Dd's art

So, dd is my second child...but due to ataxia, my son doesn't have the fine motor control for drawing. Anyway, I'm wondering if the pictures she has drawn are typical for her age? Thanks!

Don't know about all kids but my son is almost exactly a month younger and they make think of his artwork

That is about how my DD, age 5, draws now. Your DD seems to be drawing well beyond her age. But I am not an expert on this. Do you see other signs of giftedness?

My DD is 3...she was born in July 2006. She draws stuff like that all the time! I think some kids just enjoy (and are naturally more talented) at drawing than others are.

DD recently went through a phase of drawing people just like you posted pictures of, now she's moved on to adding more details. She literally carries around her little notebook all day and draws stuff, it's so cute. Here are a couple of her cartoons...

These people all have nipples and claw feet.

There was some long elaborate story behind this picture...

My sense is that it is somewhat unusual to be drawing recognizable representational art before 4, so I'd say that is somewhat advanced.

My ds started drawing like that when he was about 3 1/2. Very cute! I love the guy with the balloon!

Thanks for responding guys! Based on your responses, she ranges from slightly behind to slightly ahead...I'll take that average to mean that she's average! There are so many ways in which dd is my first although she's my second that I like checking in for feedback on what's normal in certain areas...

DD was drawing like that at that age... but I'd also say she comes by artistic abilities naturally from both sides of the family. Her father went to art school (before leaving after 3 years to pursue music...), and evidently it skips a generation on my side!

I love, love, love those types of pictures!!! All three of my girls drew like this at age three, but I wouldn't say that any of them are advanced with drawing now, lol.

Oh so cute!!!

I'm so happy you posted pics!

(I can't comment at all about what ds did, because he pretty much refused to draw until about 3 months ago, except for a couple odd but very notable exceptions along the way... He also never draws anything organic like people or animals or flowers or trees, so really no comparison.)

Your dd is drawing about at the same level as my DS who just turned 5.

I also love the titles! A balloon family? That is SOOOO cute!

She definitely seems pretty advanced to me, but what do I know?

Here is one of very few drawing development 'charts' that I've found. There are others, but they tend to favour very advanced/prodigious drawing in the illustrations and just refer to and describe the average, so they are not very user-friendly in that way; they don't often or typically provide comparison drawings for the average.
