Blood Pressure

Finally got DH to go to a physical today! problem is, his blood pressure was 150 something / 90 something. Dr wants to put him on meds if it's not down w/i a month. DH is 28! This is not a logical option for me. What can I do naturally to get his BP down??

What I've been told so far -

#1 get him rededicate to the diet and workout regiman we have fallen off of the last two weeks (birthday celebrations tend to do that ya know )

#2 eliminate all salt from diet at home

#3 the dr told him something about needing more protein?? Can someone explain that one to me?

I'm not sure that more protein is exactly what the doctor meant. He/She probably meant a reduced carbohydrate diet, which results in increased protein as the calories have to come from somewhere.

A healthy diet is no more than 40% carbs, and at least 30% fat and 30% protein.

To correct a problem like the one your DH has, you want to aim for even lower carbs. No more than 20% carbs would be a good start. (This includes carbs from beer and alcohol).

DH's blood pressure goes down when he supplements magnesium, but through trial and error we figured it needs to be at least 2x/day. Don't know how variable that is person-to-person.

Cool book--The Calcium Lie, talks about health problems that cluster that are related to imbalances of minerals--too much calcium RELATIVE to magnesium and other minerals. It's DH's family history to a T, including the hypertension.

Look into the salt issue--some people are salt sensitive, some aren't. DH's family doesn't seem to be, but I don't know all the reasons that are involved for people that are salt sensitive, maybe a sodium-potassium balance issue?

Ditto magnesium, I would seriously up the minerals in his diet.

It's not salt to avoid... it's processed salt. Read about unrefined Celtic sea salt, its low in sodium. https://www.drbrownstein.com/bookstore_Salt.php
