Musings on what I'd love to see made (or maybe it exists?)

I confess, I'm a card-carrying member of the totally cloth diaper obsessed. I love them, I love my dipes- from my unbleached indian cotton prefolds, DreamEze and Sposoeasy AIOs, an assortment of pockets and various covers. I love washing them folding them, seeing them hanging in the laundry room. I know, they're just poop catchers, but they're such cute poo catchers! Don't get me wrong, I have it under control (mostly), but I let my fantasies run wild of course. It's not like I've tried everything- good lord, is that even possible to do with everything available out there? So I wonder, maybe something exists that resembles my fantasies. Maybe someone knows...

Take covers. I have used Bummis Super Brite, Bummis SWW, Thirsties, Swaddlebees, Blueberry Coveralls, and Gen-Y. I like Thirsties, but the elastic on their gussets is thin and will tend to leave red marks more often than not. The elastic on the Gen-Y is similar, but I love the side snaps and all the cute fabrics/patterns. Other than the pattern, I don't like the Super Brites at all- too plasticky and the elastic and size of the gussets make them uncomfortable- as soon as my dd could communicate this, she did and we've abandoned them since. I really like my BSWW, altho I went thru a period where I didn't like them quite as much because of the no extra gusset factor and favored my Thirsties a little more. But the BSWW elastic is so great and soft and the fit has always been good. Then my Thirsties started falling apart. They're presently usable, but not long for this world I think. That just bugs me, as I think things should last longer than they usually do. The BSWW on the other hand still look almost new, even tho they've been used nearly as much since there's only 2 of them to about 4 Thirsties. Same for the 1 Swaddlebees cover I have, plus the velcro on this is super strong. I love the Blueberry Coveralls, but they're more expensive and I don't really need the one size right now. But, I love the elastic on the Blueberrys and I love the gussets.

So, my dream cover: the elastic and gussets of the Blueberry, the sturdiness of the BSWW or Swaddlebees, and the side snaps like Gen-Y. And of course in both simple white and lots of cute patterns. And maybe with a choice of cotton outer w/ pul inner ala the Gen-Y, or the sandwiched pul of the BSWW. Ahhhh, *sigh* it would be so beautiful!

I'd go into my fantasy pocket and AIO, but I'm running out of time here, so I guess I'll leave it that for now.

Happy Diapering all!

well that was fun to read anyway!

you know there are lots of etsians who would probably be happy to make a custom dream diaper/cover/etc for you.
I'm one of those etsian diaper makers, and I can tell you that most of what I sell came into being because I wasn't happy with what I had so I made something that I liked better.

(fwiw I've got a newborn and am not really doing custom orders right now, so I'm totally not trying to spam here...just saying that's where I'd go if I knew exactly what I wanted but couldnt' find it ready-made anywhere!)

How about the Booroi?

Yeah, that's what came to mind for me, too. Side-snapping, gussets, white and other colors/prints...BUT, I've never seen one in person, so I don't know how it feels and whatnot. But it's worth checking in to if you haven't already

Blue Penguin POSO? Although I'm not sure about the gussets.

No gussets on the Blue Penguin, also really hated the fit but if you like side snaps you might like it. Nikkis and Imse Vimse have awesome gussets but are velcro or front snap.

And if we're fantasizing about diaper covers, I might as well tell you all that the day Imse Vimse makes the organic cotton covers with snaps is the day my life will be complete.

So why have I not seen the booroi before? Looks pretty good, except I'm not sure I'd like how their gussets are styled. I really like the Blueberrys gussets best so far. That, and the booroi needs like 20 more patterns to choose from, right? This is my fantasy after all...it's not like I expect reality to oblige, although the etsy suggestion is highly tempting...

Ooooo, snap Imse Vimse- that'd be cool, but I still like the softer, wider elastic on the Blueberrys and the BSWW, but don't know if that could be done with organic materials. Of course, once again, this is fantasy, so here we can have whatever we want right? Ok, so what I said above still stands, but add that it's organic too. And don't forget, lots, I mean LOTS of cute patterned fabrics!

I was gonna say booroi too. We have one cover and DH loves it, he'll always go to that one if it's available. For me, I don't love the side snap in a cover, I do love it in a fitted though (like motherease) and the gussets on a booroi are pretty funky, they are GREAT for a trifolded prefold though. I'd give a booroi a try

Wow and they're (boorois) not too spendy either. Maybe I'll just have to give them a try... oh boy, excitement building, new (to me) diaper product on the horizon... prepare to satisfy some addiction

The Imse Vimse soft cover DOES have snaps and it is the most awesome cover ever except for the boring boring white boringness of it. It does look cute on, I like the fit and it doesn't leak anything ever so I put up with all-white covers!

I just came across this one today and was going to post that Imse vimse does have snaps. I'm with you, not so crazy about the boring white. Well, most of the time, I do have one BSWW that's white and I think it looks really cute sometimes. But Imse Vimse totally needs to make their organic cotton covers with snaps!

Hey Juliacat, what's the Blue Penguin cover you mentioned?

And anyone using Fishnoodles?
