What fish meals do you have?

Thread Starter
Im looking for new ideas to include fish in our meals. So far we already have -fish fingers, fish nuggets, battered/breaded fish portions, fish cakes/patties, fresh fish stir fry.

I prefer grilled fish - either on the BBQ or in a grill pan - or baked fish.

I usually lightly marinade the fish (one favourite - olive oil, lemon, garlic and fresh herbs - basil, thyme or oregano) and then grill.

I don't often batter fish at home - I don't like paying for fish and getting a mouthful of breadcrumbs instead! I admit that occasionally, though, I get a craving for good ol' fish and chips and we head out to the shop for a treat. Best with malt vinegar and salt!

I just replied to another thread where I mentioned fish:

"Another thing we like when it's warm out is whole grilled fish. We have an international market that sells live fish - they clean and scale the fish right there and you take home truly fresh whole fish (which is rare in the midwest). I prepare this simply, which is very refreshing for the summer. Olive oil, salt and pepper, grill whole and then a squeeze of lemon when eating. I make some homemade scratch potato chips with this. This is dd's favorite dish."

This is really the only fish we all eat. Dh sometimes likes grilled salmon when I'm grilling chicken. We make sure it's wild Atlantic (sustainability is important to us).

If fish is fresh and good, it requires nothing. It's delicious on its own. We don't eat any processed fish.

ITA with that!! MMMMMM! We like fresh trout w/olive oil or coconut oil and sea salt and pepper. Sometimes I'll drizzle a bit of melted butter on top and add some slivered toasted almonds for a treat.

The wild caught Alaskan salmon we ate last night had very little in the way of seasoning on it, and it was just delish!

I'm really lazy, so I'll just take some salmon, and put it in the pan with olive, salt and pepper until it's done, or I make a foil packet and put some soy sauce, and touch of maple syrup, few slices of ginger, some sliced garlic (or powdered ginger and garlic if I *really* don't want to cook), and black pepper for about 10-15 mins. The packet is nice, no clean-up

We LOVE a tuna salad loaded up with yummy greens and pretty much every veggie in the frig; I'll throw in some cottage cheese, diced hard-boiled eggs, croutons, whatever is hanging around; a little balsamic vinegar dressing for the salad, cheesy toast as a side, and you're good to go!

I like grilled fish, too.

And, for the more homey options--I like tuna nicoise salad and salmon croquettes.

Fish tacos or burritos
I don't have time to find the link, but my fave recipe is from Peggy's Kitchen. Game face fish tacos. Out of sight

You can make a great salmon salad as well that is very tasty spooned into hearts of romaine or served with crackers. I include lemon zest and juice, capers, finely chopped red onion, a touch of greek yogurt and a little olive oil. Even better the 2nd day!

my fil made a salt baked fish that he had in lebanon. I don't really like fish (well, fried fish but that's all I'd really eaten) and found it to be tasty! alton brown has a recipe similar to the one fil used.

We don't eat other "meats" so we do quite a bit of fish when we are not eating vegetarian meals.

We eat a lot of salmon, made lots of different ways:
  • grilled with a simple marinade or just salt, pepper and herbs
  • sauteed with onion, garlic, tomatoes and either ginger/cilantro or herbs (depends on whether we are doing Western or Asian for the other dishes)
  • crusted with bread crumbs or corn meal, mixed with herbs and garlic, or mixed with curry powder (again, East or West) - can either pan fry or bake
We also do grilled whole fishes (sea bass, rockfish, tilapia), someimes just with salt, pepper, lemon, or with a mix of finely tomatoes/garlic/cilantro stuffed into the cavity

Sometimes, if we can get it at a decent price, we will do tuna or swordfish, usually curried

Sometimes, I make seafood/fish Chinese dumplings with ground fish, garlic, soy sauce, ginger, spring onion

We also make milkfish to make sinagong (a tamarind broth with fish and veggies) or with black bean sauce (both from Philippines)

i poach salmon in whitewine and dill and peppercorns. My kids love it.

We eat it very simply-- baked or broiled in butter. We like light, white fish with a tomato and basil and garlic topping, or just garlic and lemon. Stronger-tasting fish just gets lemon. I serve it usually with highly seasoned brown rice or quinoa, and make the vegetables the highlight of the meal.

We usually grill our fish, or pan sear it. For salmon I love it with teriyaki sauce and grilled or with a rum and brown sugar cure and then grilled. For pan searing I like using sea bass seasoned with creole seasoning and pan seared.

i usually tend to bake it with olive oil and bragg's sprinkles, pepper and salt.
if it's salmon i really like to drizzle a very small amount of maple syrup- it makes it moist and slightly sweeter. mmmmmm.
have you ever tried plank grilling?
