Swimming with babe

We are taking our little girl to the beach next week and am looking for swim diaper options that I can buy before we go in a few days. She is a big babe, 19 pounds now at almost 8 months. I hate to use disposable swim dipes. I do have one suit, I just don't think that will be enough for the week. I was hoping more places woudl have re-usable options but haven't seen them yet.

it was my understanding (which may be wrong) that swim diapers exist because disposables shred in the water and these don;t and that they don't actually do anything special as far as absorbing any uh...waste products. and that if you use cloth you can just use those with plastic pants.

at least that's the requirement for the swim class we take.

That is true. They absorb nothing but hold in poo, pee goes right through them. That's it...So I just use a polar fleece fitted nappy (no cover), or a flat diaper tucked into the crotch of her bathing suit bottoms to catch any poops, though usually I can spot those coming and I just potty her over a hole in th sand.

And as long as no poo has happened in a sposie swimmer, I reuse them, too.

FWIW, my LO is just 2.5 months and we have been in the sea lots...sometimes...okay,most of the time, we just go naked. creatures bigger than my dd are making poop in the sea, yk? I use the CDs in the pool, though since the filter is not made for baby poos, and we share it with everyone in the condo.

I'm just an innocent bystander here but this part made me

Target use to have a nice end cap with reusable ones, but they have stopped carrying them, at least in my town. That being said they still have a few speedo ones in their swim aisle.

I would have a few swim suits just in case one is drying when baby wants to go swimming again.

Check these out!!

i've just used a regular pocket diaper with a PUL cover. i don't know how much pee it actually held in, but no poops got out, and DD seemed perfectly content the whole time!!

I've never done this before and we have our frist swim class in a pool Saturday.

If I buy the cloth reusable ones, then what happens if DD poos during class - I suppose I need another bottom? Or can I use a cloth diaper soaker? Do I use any cloth diaper in addition to the covers?

Can I use my thirsties fitted cloth diaper and thirsties cover?

Thanks!

I felt like aking a bath today with my boy so I just took him in the tub with me in a bumGenius with the PUL cover. No swim diaper needed.

We have Motherease Swim Diapers. Works great- they've never had to evacuate the pool because of us. LOL

I just bought DS the Speedo swim diaper at Target someone mentioned above. It's got fitted undies on the inside to catch poops. I can't exactly remember the price but I don't think I even paid $10. We haven't used it yet, so I can't vouch for it, but it seems pretty well made and like it will dry quickly.

Thanks, I searched three Targets looking only in baby section. Doh! Wish I would have known to look in swimming aisle. This will be my short term solution I think since Target is close and we leave Saturday.

Thanks everyone for the other suggestions, will look into some cloth dipes if not happy with the iPlay suit that I have now and hopefully the speedo pants I will get at Target.

I have a swim diaper that I got for my dd. Ds is 6 months now and 17 pounds. The diaper is made by Bummis, looks like a regular velcro-on cover, and has a big M on the tag that I think is the size. It fit dd at 4 months, and will probably last a while longer with ds. I don't use any diaper in it; the purpose is to keep the poop in. I guess you would want to have two if you wanted to keep swimming after a poop happened, unless you could just wash it out and put it back on...it doesn't have to be dry, after all. I ordered it online.

When dd was older, I had two pull-on swim diapers that I used, no insert, just like a cover. They are nice and soft, but I don't remember the brand.
