tetnus shot & puncture wound

Hi -- I'm newly pregnant and today I stepped on a sewing needle. It got stuck in my big toe ... felt like I had a splinter and I looked and saw it was a needle that was very clean looking - not rusty or anything. I pulled it out immediately. It was a small/skinny needle and probably went in 1/16th of an inch, because most of it was still sticking out of my toe. So, it bled a tiny bit, then I washed it off and soaked it for a few minutes, dried and bandaged (just so no dirt gets in...) Now, my question, do I need a tetanus shot? It has been 15 years and yes, I should have gotten one years ago but didn't. Do I need to get one for this small puncture wound? ETA: This doesn't seem bad at all ... in fact, just like a splinter except it was a sewing needle/not wood and I extracted it immediately. I'm only worried because everything I read about puncture wounds seem bad like they can get very infected or I could get tetnus from it.

I'd say no, but you could call your doc just to make sure. Seeing it wasn't rusty or dirty and didn't go in very far, you are probably okay.

I had a tetanus when 13 weeks PG with my DD. However, I had received at least 4 or 5 puncture-type bites from a dog, so they were more worried about infection.

Hope your pgcy continues happy and healthy!
