I did NOT go to the hospital too early!

You know how they tell you if you want a drug-free natural birth - you shouldn't go to the hospital too early? Well, let's just say that I didn't. I did go, and I did make it in time and I was even in a hospital room - but there wasn't time to exchange any information like my name or register or tell them anything about me. After a five and half hour labor, I delivered sitting on the hospital toilet seat - 'cause you know, squatting seemed like a good idea. I must say the nurses were fantastic when they asked if I could get to the bed and I said no. And then they said - well you can't deliver on the toilet. And I said I have to be squatting. So they shifted my legs out, put down pads on the floor and I was on my hands for the first push. Then they lowered me onto DH and one nurse while the other one delivered the baby on the bathroom floor. The house Dr. just stood outside the door and my doula never made it to me.

This is my second birth and I was having REALLY big pains on the way to the hospital. And I was thinking "I have nothing to prove. I CANNOT feel this way for the next 3-4, 6 hours. I think I might get an epidural this time." Then I thought - you don't have to make any decisions right now. Wait until you are in the hospital bed and the doula gets here and then see how you feel. This is why you hired a doula. Little did I know that I was in transition at that point and it would only be minutes more!

All is good here!

Congratulations!

at your transition story. During mine, I was really praying that I'd had that damn shot and why did have to be such an f'in hippy.

A friend of mine is an L&D nurse and she says they deliver in the bathroom a lot since it really is much more comfortable on the pot for a lot of women.

It didn't seem that unusual to me but it was a first at my hospital. They've had the elevator and someplace else I think. But not the bathroom. I'm kind of a medieval history buff and the birth scenes always have these birthing stools - they look like a toilet without the front. I kept thinking why don't modern hospitals have birthing stools like that?

They do! I delivered my first child on one! Metal and plastic though, not wood

Yay Ellien! What a great birth story... we had one of those, too. I said the same thing about the epidural as my DH was driving over potholes. I was in transition then, too.

Congrats on your new little one!

Wow, I am in awe you ladies who have driven over potholes while in transition! I don't think I could handle that.

Congratulations! That is really neat that you had the support you needed to birth how you were comfortable.
