When are you starting solids? - Page 2

DD is 5.5 months and I just started her on solids last week. I had planned to wait until 6 months at least, and was in no hurry, but it just felt right to start when we did.

She's showing all the signs of readiness: can sit by herself, no more tongue thrust, *intense* interest in our food, trying to grab off our plates, etc. Her first tooth is also pushing through. So I made up some avocado/breastmilk and sweet potato/breastmilk purees and tried it out. She *loves* it. Grabs at the spoon as soon as she sees it and gobbles up the food. We also let her mouth at carrots and other foods just to try it out.

Right now I'm giving her some food in the evening, in addition to - rather than in place of - her regular nursings. It's working really well for us.

I was planning to wait until 6 months, but DD was showing interest and grabbing at our food at just over 5 months old (right around the time she got her first 2 teeth). So I started giving her infant cereal, which she liked, and started making homemade purees after that. Now at almost 9 months, she will eat just about anything we offer her! She's having a lot of fun with finger foods.

We started BLW at 5 mths and a week or so. DD grabbed some banana out of DH's hand and ate it. We figured she was ready. And because we did BLW, she wasn't really ingesting very much at first.
