how long till DC could sleep by themselves??

DD is almost a year and still cosleeping. my question is, when was your kiddo able to go to sleep by themselves? we still have to rock DD to sleep (sometimes this can take up to an hour or more) and then lay down WITH her in bed, but then once she's settled we can leave the room and she'll sleep on her own. she will wake up and russle around every-so-often, but for the most part she'll stay asleep. now we're thinking about transfering her into her own crib, but i KNOW there's going to be MANY sleepless nights of getting her asleep, putting her down, her waking up, starting that process all over again, waking up in the middle of the night, etc. part of me is not ready for that process (she's been a great co-sleeper, i haven't lost that much sleep since she's been born), but another part of me is ready to get my bed back. ALSO, when did your co-sleeping babe start STTN?? DD still wakes up 1-2 times for a nursing session and goes back to sleep with ease. but if we transition her into a crib, i'm worried she'll wake up more often and demand to eat more often.

whew! any advice, tips are welcome!! TIA!

Why don't you try putting a mattress on her floor? That way, you could join her for part of the night when she needs you and slip away when she is asleep. We have been doing this with DD since she was about 2. She slept pretty well in her crib between ages 1-2, but I think that was just blind luck. She still wakes 1-2 times per night, but all we have to do to settle her is to lay down with her for a while. She has a full size mattress, but a twin might work for you.

It may seem a bit scary to have a one year old alone on an open mattress, but that sort of bedding is part of the montessori philosophy for even very young children (I don't know much about montessori, but I've heard of the montessori bed).

Ours could do it about 2.5 and even now at 5 I miss her if she goes too many nights without coming to my bed to cuddle. Cuddles are imortant

My first ds was about 18-20 months or so. He pretty much started sleeping through the night at 18 months when I decided I needed to nightwean him. We had a twin against our mattress and after he had nightweaned we gradually moved the bed away from ours. By the time his 2nd birthday arrived he was in his own room. But it wasn't until he about 3 that he consistently went to sleep on his own. He liked to have us sit or lay down next to him until he fell asleep.
