slimy fermented carrots?

What did I do wrong? I used salt to taste, grated carrots, ginger, green onions, paprika powder and a touch of filtered water. I went to look today and the water is thick, like slime. Ewww. It smells good and it makes a bubbly sound. Is this normal?

The brine does get thicker, one could use the word slimey even, though we didn't have problems eating them. If they look good and smell good, I'd say it went well.

Thanks Tanya. That really should be on every single recipe that it may happen. I did lots of research and finally found that if you pour some liquid from your other ferments (especially cabbage ones) into your carrots, they won't get slimy. I"m going to try that and see what happens.
