Legalizing Chickens

Hi Ladies,
Currently in my town, chickens are illegal unless you have a minimum of one acre of land for the first chicken and then .25 acres for each additional chicken. Basically, the ordinance says that they're livestock and treats a chicken the same as a cow. I would really like to get this changed and have to petition the zoning board in order to do so. I figure the easiest way is to reclassify chickens as pets instead of livestock.

Could anyone provide some good resources to help me change this law?

I would go to the backyardchickens forum (www.backyardchickens.com) there is LOTS of info there. good luck!

I would also post about this in your tribal area. There might be some local mamas who would also love to have chickens, or might know of good local law resources.

I know that Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) is currently considering the issue of whether or not to allow backyard chickens.

There seems to be a lot of relevant information on this website that I found from a google search:

Good luck on your quest.
