Colic and food reaction

Hi all,

My 20 days baby is presenting symptoms of food intolerance/allergy. My older child is severely allergic, so I am somewhat trained. I noticed that if I drink a glass of milk, the baby end up with a bad case of "colic" and cry in despair. After eliminating milk from my diet, I noticed that seems like wheat is getting the best out of him too. So, I baked some gluten free bread and he was much better this morning. However late afternoon he got a bad crying spell and as of early this morning is yet to give me a dirty diaper. I think that the lack of poo is causing the pain, however at this point I am not sure. So, what is the best solution you have found for colic? At this point I have tried some homeopathic and also am giving him probiotic mixed with a small amount of breast milk.

Please let me know if you have any ideas that I may be able to try.

Thanks. Be well

I'd add zinc and magnesium for you. Also, probiotics for you. Eliminate all wheat/gluten, dairy, corn and soy for 2 weeks. Eat more green salads every day. Take an Epsom salt bath daily or several times a week.

Your probiotic is dairy free, right? Ideally soy-free as well? Soy and dairy cross-react so much. I'd double check stealth sources, maybe you already have, things like a multivit if you take one, anything like that.

The study I read on colic and probiotics saw improvement over the course of several weeks, and dairy elimination usually takes a while as well. So I'd watch for a trend, give it at least a week to see if things are improving, but it may take longer to see if things are all the way improved.

Indeed, the probiotic I am giving the baby is free of all commom allergen. I do take the pre-natal vitamin and need to check on that. After the probiotic yesterday he did better and had one bowel movement. so far today he is doing fine and I am going to give him the probiotic in the morning. We have a doctor's appointment this afternoon and I will have the chance to discuss a bit more.
Thanks for the replies. Be well

Since I am not a bath person (prefer my showers), can I add a bit of Epsom salt to the baby's bath?

Thanks. Be well

Yes, small amount.

Kirkmans has an Epsom salt cream. Caution on dose. Be very careful.

Yes, small amounts for a babe. I gave my baby a salt bath when he was a few weeks old and it gave him the runs since magnesium can move the bowels, and it was an adult dose. Still at the right dose it is very beneficial.
