Anyone else?

SO I also posted in the allergy forum because I am leaning in that direction. But I wanted to post here to see if others had similar experience and a different outcome.

My dd2 is 6 months old. She has not gained weight or length in 3.5 months. Her poops are usually green and mucusy for about 3 months now. She has purple circles around her eyes. She is doing normal developmental things like rolling, grabbing, babbling.

She is not a good sleeper, but this could be her more than something wrong I guess. A good night would be only 4-5 wake ups. She was ebf until 2.5 weeks ago, when we started solids. We were both treated for thrush, which was what I originally thought was causing all this. But that seems to be fine now and she still isn't gaining. Oh she also sounds a bit congested alot of the time.

After the various thrush treatments didn't help, I took her to a ped. I told ped I suspect and allergy. Ped seemed only to focus on weight and told me to start solids and wanted her on solids 4 times a day ( a lot at each time) by the end of a month. And she told me to go ahead and give her cow's milk. S0 I am not going back there.

I guess I wanted to know if anyone else had similar sysmptoms that weren't allergy related so I know if I am overlooking something. We tested her poop but it came back ok.

TIA

that sounds fishy b/c i had always heard that dark rings around the eyes and congestion were signs of possible dairy allergy

I agree - when I hear congestion my first thought is dairy. Have you tried eliminating dairy from your diet?

Sounds like allergies to me. . .sorry mama Mucousy poops are usually a very strong sign. Dairy would be my first food to eliminate (I am currently diary free for my EBF babe). . .that's the most common allergy. Or look at Dr Sears info on allergies, he has a list of the top seven common allergens.

Thanks for the input mammas. This is the direction I am leaning in too. I have begun an elimination diet. I am on day 2 of Dr. Sears' plus a few extras but I think I probably need to add whole wheat back in. I am pretty hungry =).

I did cut back dairy a couple weeks ago for 1.5 weeks, in the sense that I didn't look for it in ingredients but I didn't eat cheese, yogurt or milk. I switched to margarin. I felt better but didn't notice any drastic changes in dd. However I then slipped up and had some cheese again, so I am back to square one. This time I will also not eat processed foods either so I can avoid hidden milk ingredients.

Yeah, you can get really, really hungry on elimination diets! Make sure you are getting enough fat. . .olive oil and avocado will help you feel full. I decided to start with dairy only b/c I didn't want to eliminate everything and then be cranky and not know which food was the problem. But then again, you may help your LO to feel better faster on a more complete elim.

Just keep in mind about the dairy. . .it can take 2-3 weeks for the proteins to leave your/their system. So you really have to commit to 3 weeks (a lot of people say a month) of total elimination. Some babes can handle dairy for instance in small doses or react more to some types of dairy than others, but my LO reacts to the smallest dab of butter (or any diary/casein) that gets onto my food. So I have to be super careful (eating out to really hard) and read all food labels like a mad woman. I've found it much easier to just not eat processed food. I just cook with whole ingredients--vegetables, fruits, grains, beans, etc--so I know exactly what is in my food. Its a healthier diet anyway, although it can be difficult to do so much cooking with a LO.

Probiotics can be helpful, find a brand with no allergens. Also there are some nice allergy-free foods out there when you need a treat. I am in love with the "Enjoy Life" brand of chocolate chips--dairy, soy, egg and nut free and they taste great!
