The Art of Racing in the Rain...I don't "get" it.

For several months, all of my reading buddies have raved, raved, raved about The Art of Racing in the Rain.

So I finally got around to reading it and I just don't get the hype.

Two things didn't do it for me -

1.) I am a cat person. Maybe the book speaks more to dog people?

2.) I spent most of the book wanting to reach through the pages to slap Denny for being so stupid.

Anyone else read it? Your thoughts?

I loved it. I am a total dog person though! I thought it was such a unique and thought provoking book.

I passed it along to a dog-person friend and she totally loved it and went on to say she believes her dogs do have thoughts like that. So, it must speak more to dog people.

She made the comment that there could never be a cat version of it because cats would just roll their eyes at silly race car tapes and go back to sleep. I don't disagree with her.

Hmmm. It was recommended to me so I picked it up and, truthfully, I couldn't get past forty pages in... I just thought the premise was stupid. So, I guess, I certainly didn't "get" it.

I really liked it, too. I didn't really think about how a cat person vs a dog person would take it.

It was short, but I think it was well written.

I liked it except for the car racing parts. I'm not a big fan of car races. I love stories that are told from the dog's point of view. Yes, I'm a dog person too.
I really liked the epilogue even though some found it cheesy.
