Does WOH keep you from giving birth? - Page 2

My water broke in the early morning. I went into work anyway because I had loose ends to wrap up before going on leave. I think the distraction helped though early labor. I kept thinking I wasn't really in labor yet, but all the while my body was doing exactly what it needed to.

I have to answer this one!

I am a grad student, and DS's due date was Dec 13, during final exam week. I managed to schedule one exam early (I think it was the 11th), but 2 profs gave me grief about scheduling the others for an earlier date, and I was supposed to take them with everyone else. The second exam was Dec 15 (to be turned in on Dec 16th), and the third exam was scheduled for Dec 18, but I had mentally decided I would not take it, regardless of whether or not I had gone into labor. I turned in the second exam on Dec 16th at around 10 am and went out with DH for lunch. We said to ourselves, "wow, we never thought we'd have a chance to relax before the baby came!" I went into labor 24 hours later.

I'm really surprised by some of the harshness coming out on this thread.

I don't think anybody implied that WOH would keep you from giving birth FOREVER.

But I've wondered, also, if relaxing a bit might help me go into labor. Here on MDC, especially, we tend to talk about how great being able to relax a little is as far as stimulating labor. How meditating and talking to the baby can help, etc.

So you could also say the same thing for SAHMs or WAHMs... maybe a nice relaxing day would help get labor started.

I've wondered this same thing myself. No, my job isn't stressful, I'm sitting here typing on MDC! But it's certainly not *relaxing.*

My plan is to work until I go into labor. But if I get to 41w3d or so, I'm going to go ahead and take off. Maybe I need a bit of relaxation?

I started maternity leave 11/9 and my water broke the next day. 11/11 was my EDD
