Less aware of 2nd babe?

DD2 (1 week old) is in an Arms Reach Mini right next to my bed, and I have brought her into bed to side-lie nurse in the middle of the night and have fallen asleep with her there. But, I feel like I'm not as hyper-aware of her presence in bed as I was with DD1. Is this just getting used to an infant in bed again? (DD1 is 4.5 and has been 90% in her own bed for about a year.) Or, is it possible that I'm just not as sensitive to her presence as I was to DD1's? I don't want to fall asleep with her in bed with me if I'm not able to be aware of her, you know?

Um, well, that hasn't been the case in my experience. With both of mine I woke up from a dead sleep to prevent an accident. (With DS it was to guard against DH rolling over on him, with DD it was to catch her as she was rolling off the bed.)

But it's about YOUR comfort level - do what you feel is right!

yes! this seems to be the case with me too. DH wakes up more often than I do with DD2 (7 months). it's weird that he hears her and i don't. DD1 was in bed with us most of the time and DD2 is in a pack-n-play next to our bed quite a bit because DD1 keeps getting in our bed and i dont want her to be in bed with the baby. i feel much better knowing it's not just me. oh, and i'm exclusively BFing, so i should be more in tune, but i think i'm just so tired that i'm dead asleep at night.

This has been my experience, too. We sidecarred DS2's crib to our bed, but I'm going to have to put the 4th railing back on-- he keeps squirming onto our bed and I'm so sound asleep I don't notice! Well, I do eventually, but it totally freaks me out.

This is totally my experience. And I don't want to kick DD1 out (well, I do ), because she's having such a hard time adjusting still.

Luckily, this wee one is happier in the co-sleeper than her sister was.

I felt that way w/my 3rd child. But I did always wake when she squirmed or fussed. I think I felt like I was sleeping to deep because the last 2 were close in age & I was so tired. I kept her in my bed & now @ 21m I feel hyper aware of her lol.
