bolding mine

So kids that are home right now with an active case of infectious chicken pox which will leave them with lifetime immunity (yeah for them!) are being told by health officials to go out and get the vaccine

am I missing something here?? If they will have immunity from having had the pox, then they presumably don't *need* the vaccine now.

Nope your not missing anything. I think that person that wrote that needs to get their facts correct.

Yep, and the health officials that are dispensing this tragic advice should also get their facts straight

OMG, that is the dumbest logic I've ever heard.

But, they could mean it as a reminder about getting the healthy kids their shots. Most don't know the benefits of getting the actual disease instead of the shots though.

Yup, dumb logic.

But to be totally accurate, chicken pox infections don't give lifelong immunity, or at least not always/usually. I think humans are meant to be exposed at least twice in their lives (as children, then as parents).

I read your title, "This logic is hysterical!" and then clicked to mis-read that the article was from the Onion, and I thought, "Well, of course it's funny - it's from the Onion."

Sorry to see that it's not.

True...we have the vaccine to thank for that

You mean we have the vaccine to thank for the fact that many of us are no longer getting the second exposure?
I think (read hope) they mean that non infected children should get vaccinated.

I would hope so too, but this is NOT how it reads. It specifically says to keep infected children at home and to get them (gramatically this would refer to the infected children) vaccinated. So either the writer doesn't know grammer or the advice being dispense here is bad. Either way it's pretty sad!

Thats hysterical in a sad kind of way....
The very first word is a grammatical error.

So how many of these infected children were vaccinated? Or do we not get to know that? And not to thread-jack, but is there any reliable data out there on how often vaccinated children end up getting this horrid, egregious () infirmity? [/I]
