A few weeks ago I was at a cross-roads when I realized that I was in a place in my life where I could start down a hard path that would land me where I wanted to be in life. (i.e. teaching in a university or college) I was terrified about how to pay for school and leaving my job, and any number of things.
A few of you mentioned just leaping and seeing what happens. If it's meant to be, it will work.
I'm not a leap and trust fate kind of girl, but I researched. A LOT. And what I saw made me decide to give it a go. Declare my plan to the world, make a check-list of baby-steps and see. I figured if I didn't get through the first few hurdles, then I wasn't really committed to the plan.
So, um...I think I need to re-evaluate my belief in fate.
It's all kind of coming together! I can use work's tuition reimbursement program to cover the undergrad classes I need to take. STBX is on board with me moving in a couple of years (we're even writing it into our divorce decree/custody agreement). I found the first two classes offered online through a state college with a good reputation. So I'm all signed up. 3 paycheck month is coming just in time to pay for those classes. I figured out that if I can cash flow summer and fall, then by the end, I'll always have cash to pay through the reimbursement program.
And now, the final kiss of blessing from fate: ALL of the classes I need will be offered by this state college online for the first time starting this fall. This is pretty amazing. Most non-profit schools offer a couple intro classes online and that's it. This school has a strong and established online program and a good reputation with what I want to study. But they've never offered more than a few classes in this department before. I knew it would be a struggle to get past them, but figured I'd work it out. So I emailed the prof I'm taking classes from this summer and asked his opinion on which of the two offerings for this fall I should take. He called me and said not to take them....that within a few days, the whole program will be online and he told me which classes to take! Hooray!!! This is pretty key--otherwise, I may have needed to go with a for-profit online college and that would have doubled the cost -- more than my tuition benefit covers by far.
Oh---and if I get super stuck for tuition money, my grandpa has decided to distribute our inheritances this year. He has cash, he knows we can use it, and he's writing checks as soon as I finalize my divorce! It's not a lot of money, but it will certainly float the tuition for fall and still leave a nice little emergency fund.
So to whoever said to just close your eyes and leap and things fall into place...kudos!
