Acne

Hello,
My daughter, who is 11 years old, is having a problem with acne. It seems to be hormonal. I give her flax seed oil and a probiotic. However, she is still having problems with outbreaks.

I have had a problem with acne since I was my daughter’s age. It seemed the only thing that helps is green clay topically and detox tea from traditional medicinals. I was wondering if she is too young for a detox tea. I believe Shizandra(sp?) is one of the main ingredients in the tea.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

well if it is hormonal I would think a detox tea would not be helpful. The key to calming hormonal acne is balancing the hormones. Being that she is going through puberty, this may be difficult.

If the acne is from being toxic than cleansing would be helpful Id imagine.
I'm not farmiliar with this tea, so Im not sure if it is appropraite for a young girl. Have you researched that ingredient you listed?

all it says it that pregnant women should not use it. I would think it would be fine for an 11 yr old.

Try a face wash and light moisturizer with tea tree oil and give her cod liver oil. The retinol form of vitamin A in th CLO is supposed to be very good for acne. Oh and remind to not touch her face too much.

There are simple detox things she can do. A glass of lemon water when she wakes up about 20 min before breakfast is good for detox. Epsom salt baths are also good for detoxing. Drinking water throughout the day is good too.

High vitamin cod liver oil:

Get her vitamin D levels tested. What most people don't know is that vitamin D is actually a hormone, not a technically vitamin! It is essential for the immune system and hormone function of the body.

What probiotic are you using? It might just not be strong enough.

Pastuerized milk could be a factor.

Willing to try acupuncture?

I'm working with an acupuncturist on my weird cycles, we're in the middle of it, and this cycle, for the first time in years and years, I've got two pimples, they coincided with ovulating. I'm pretty sure this is a transitory effect due to fixing my cycles, which have been weird for 4 years now--and I'm seeing other improvements--so it may be something to consider.

FWIW, I have detoxification issues, and my weird cycles are a related off-shoot--one part is that I think my body was having trouble breaking down the estrogen it was making in a timely fashion. Nutrients, and getting low on various nutrients, are very interrelated to staying caught up on detoxification, stuff like folate, mag, zinc, B12 and such.

Sulfur soap if she's super oily. If not, a nice exfoliating face wash helps.

During my first pregnancy, I kept breaking out due to hormonal issues. I used a honey/milk mask about every other day and noticed a huge difference. Just mix 1 tsp milk and 1 tsp honey until the honey is dissolved, then spread it on the face. Leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse, not wash, off.

I still do this at least 1-2 times a week and use EVCO as a moisturizer.

from personal experience, I know that dairy cause my breakouts. I have had moderate acne starting at the beggining of menses, about 11 and all throughout my teen years i was a stickler about drinking milk and love ice cream too. I was on antibiotics and birth control to control my breakouts, I only wish i knew about the info in the above site then. I have gone dairy free i am now 27 and still get breakouts, and when i elminate dairy my skin gets clearer. When I allow dairy back into my life i will get breakouts again. So you may want to try to eliminate dairy for a month or so and see if her skin improves. Or at least reduce it and see how her skin does. Also eating more fruits and veggies will definitely help the skin too.
